Hi all, this is a new computer i'm building, have about a $1200 budget, have extra 21 inch monitor at home already. Going to be used mostly for gaming, MMORPGs mainly. I tried to go with what most people recommended.. No SLI or such.

raid 0 = no. anyways for $110 bucks you can either save the money to get a bad arse tagan 480w u22, or up $10 for a 500w seasonic, which is power you wont need. switch the 3540 with a benq dw1640. you dont need a second drive. HIS makes really good vid cards so you're set with that.

edit: then again a 350w would perform very well. pcp&c 360w silencer for around $65 will do you good.

How about a 6600GT?
That Mobo's ok if you don't plan to OC, which is silly considering you're getting a 3000+.
There are 250GB drive for comparable price.

Uh, what are you talking about.
An X800XL is a much better card than a 6600 GT, and the Epox is a great OC'er.

Look like you've done your homework.....congrats. The only questionable items for me are the case/psu. Obviously, the case is personal preference so I wont bother trying to change your mind on that one. That leaves the PSU. While OCZ supplies are popular around here, I think you can get a better one for less money. For instance:

Seasonic S12-430 430W PSU - $99.00

Great deal for the money, active PFC, dual 12v, quiet 120mm fan, etc, blah, etc...

If you wanted to go modular, theres always the Antec NeoPower480, which is $5.00 more than the OCZ model you've selected, not to mention a much better PSU than even the Seasonic and TONS better than any powerstreams regardless of wattage.

I don't think i'll need 500w do you? I don't plan on going SLI with this build, maybe my next one in a year or two - and I'm not really an OCer.

I had a reason in my head to get 2 drives but I forget what it is now so I'll get rid of the dvd-rom

Oh and the RAM I'm getting is 1g of crucial value pc3200

How about this for a PSU, fortron bluestorm 500w
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817104934

I looked really hard at the seasonics - don't know if its just Neweggs pictures but the wiring looks really messy, no sleeving or anything, expected something for the extra cost.

Also I don't mind changing the case if theres something wrong with it, I've looked at alot of them and its really hard to know whats best without being able to check it out in real life.

Saying that the Antec is a better than a Seasonic or OCZ might be reaching a bit. But saying it's MUCH better, and TONS better is just stupid.
The OCZ Powerstreams all come with a 5-yr warranty, plenty of Amps @+12V, and rock solid rails.

To the OP:
If you want to go with the Fortron, I think that would also be a very good choice. Fortron PSU's are excellent, and the fact that it comes pre-sleeved is a big plus for myself. Definitley more power than you need right now, but it will leave you plenty of room for upgrades.

As for the HD's, I believe the 250GB drive is cheaper because it doesn't have NCQ. You don't need that anyways, so just get the bigger one.

On Seagates site it says the 250gb drive has NCQ also, I didn't think it being OEM would lower the price that much.

Native Command Queuing
Basically it affects how data on the disk is found and read. Tests have shown it to help in multi-user (sever) setups, but offer no gains and even some loss in performance on single user setups.

Oh really....then let's do a short little comparison here without getting too technical.

Seasonic S12 430W $100 - 3 yr warranty, lowest cost, quiet, most efficient, plain looking.
OCZ Powerstream 420W $110 - 5 yr warranty, "bling" name, lowest advertised specs.
Antec NeoPower 480W $115 - 3 yr warranty, modular, highest adv. specs, highest cost.

It's pretty much a no-brainer for me....Considering the price difference, both the seasonic or the Antec would be a better deal, IMO. All I can see that the 420W powerstream has going for it is a better warranty, and that oh so important "bling". What does that do for performance? Absolutlely nothing.

I kinda feel like this post is a waste of time since the OP chose the Fortron 500 (good choice, BTW), but I wont stand by and let you claim my comments are stupid without expecting some sort of positive proof. I'll agree that my comment about the Antec being TONS better was reaching a bit, but far from a stupid comment. Each PSU has it's advantages, but frankly, I don't see what the 420W powerstream has to offer as far as performance, when compared to the other two models.

I'd recommend buy a case with no power supply. then buy a $50 Fortron 450W. you will thank yourself for doing that later down the road when your power supply is still going strong and not giving you any problems as you add more hardware and/or add more powerful hardware

can i recommend a case?

Text

this is the best power supply for $50. nothing compares

Nothing wrong with the case as long as you like it, just wouldn't have been my first choice personally.

You could just buy my nearly brand new X800XL and save yourself $50+. Click the link in my sig to see my thread.

*Oh, and get the Blue Storm. The strong 12v rail will help supply the power your mobo & x800xl will pull from that rail.

personally i would get: the sonata 2, an x800 vanilla (you will get 80% of the performance of an xl for $100 less), 2x 1gb ram.

just make sure that your mobo will take that ram.
