New Computer Deals?

Ok so my sister is looking for a cheap computer. She's looking for one that would be able to do work (powerpoint and stupid stuff like that) while being able to go on the internet. I know, a 266mhz can probably do this. However, she's looking for a new system thats under $800.

She's willing to stretch her budget an extra $100 if there's a really good deal going on. If there's an LCD screen, even better. Dell is probably the best way to go on this but i was just wondering if anyone here had any input.

I'm used to building computers but i dont wanna build her comp because if something goes wrong i wont be able to help her. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Dude, you're getting a mini mac! or if it MUST be a pc i suppose you could get a dell... *shudders*
and about the screen, buy it seperately. If it comes free with the computer, it's crap. If they charge extra, its probably crap and usually over-priced.

Dell usually has some pretty good deals on refurbished systems. sometimes they're sent back because the customer decided they didn't like what they got and sent it back new, or it had minor repairs done. if you can find their refurbed part of their website you might find a really good deal. plus I'm sure you can work out a deal that includes the stupid stuff and maybe an lcd screen. good luck

edit : dell always ships their copmuters with some software. I got a 933 mhz p3 128mb 20gb w/cd-rw from the refurb deals for about $800 4 yrs ago and it came with microsoft office, easy cd creater and some backup disks.

Thanks alot for the replies guys. Greatly appreciated. I don't think i'm gonna go with a mac . Sorry. just because most compatible is PC. but thanks for the suggestion.

I'll probably get her the 4700. She's not looking for a great comp but just one to get work done. In the end i'll probably just reformat it for her and get rid of all that extra software. Again, thanks for the posts.
