Maybe you should try reflashing your BIOS with the latest version. Or see if there are updates for your mother boards drivers. I believe there is actually a driver for the AGP slot, although yours may be the latest.

I know you said your temps were only ~46 even under load but try running with your case open for a while and see if that helps. Also what do you have installed for optical drives? And have you done any SMART (or other) diagnostics on your HD?

ive been running it with my case open for the most part and it hasnt changed anything. I even just got a new cpu cooler(Silentboost) and it hasnt helped. I havent tried a hard drive diagnostic but i wouldnt think that would be it if it is only during 3d aps that this is happening. The lanparty comes with an app that runs in the background that automatically finds the latest updates for the drivers so im pretty sure there arent any new ones out.

My optical drives are a lite on dvd 16x and a lite on 52x32x52

are there any error messages generated by windows when it starts up to say that it crashed, these can be quite helpful sometimes in finding a fault.

also as a quicky, go into your bios and reset to the defaults, this is a suprisingly good way on getting back stability at the tradeof of some performance.

If this solves the problem you can then turn things back on one at a time and see which setting causes the instability.

Check your ram timings also, although the ram tests ok it could be the rest of the computer that doesn't like it.

I am getting a wierd error on every startup that says "MonitorStart: unable to set Talkback system hook." Anyone know what that means?

I find it hard to believe that a BIOS update occurs in the back ground. I would check the version # when your computer starts up and then find out if that is the latest.

No i meant that it finds any bios update and tells me if there is one, which it hasnt done.

The symptoms sound like one of 3 things.

1. memory, but you ran a memory checker and it returned good.

2. Power. This could very well be it. During normal usage the graphics card doesn't draw as much power. When you start running 3d games/benchmarks it starts drawing a lot of power. Maybe try using a different power connector hookup to the 9700Pro. Like maybe one that has nothing else hooked into it.

In the bios should be a screen where the motherboard shows what each power "rail" is sending it. make sure that one of those is not more than 5% off what it should be. IE 3.3volt should be within .16 volts above or below that. With the graphics card there you may want to try and bump the voltage up on it if your motherboard allows you to. I was having some simliar problems, and bumped the AGP voltage up a notch with a 9700Pro and it solved it.

3. graphics card overheating. There should be a utility you can use to monitor the temp of the GPU. It can run much hotter in 3d mode, than in regular 2d windows mode.

Hopefully one of the above will get it steady all of the time.

Well what can i do if its my graphic cards over heating? I have the case open and 4 case fans, and my room isnt that hot. I really cant understand why they would be overheating, especially since i tried 2 different ones and they both are having the same problem.

Not overheating, underheating. The card isn't getting enough voltage. Check the rails, like Cuular said. The 9700 pro and 9500 pro both are very finicky about voltage. The new 9600 is not.

uninstall the video driver, reboot, install nForce II AGP driver, reboot, install DX9b,reboot, install newest video card driver.
Give that a try, it can't hurt.

I turned Fast write off. And set the RAM to 2.5. And all is well so far. I just played the Homeworld 2 demo for an hour or so, with no problems. I hope it holds

Hmm how much power should my video card be getting? I just have the voltage set on automatic for it but it gives me a few options to set it differing by .1 volts. Ill try reinstalling the drivers but ive already done it once. ANd i checked my rails in bios and they seemed pretty good, they were certainly not off by 5%.

YEEEEEEEEES!!! Turned the agp voltage up to 1. 7 and it works perfectly now. For some reason its also running way cooler. Dont know why as that seems opposite what it should be, but any way thanks for the help, and now ive gone from wanting to run my computer over with a steam roller to loving it.
