This sucks so bad because I am having a similar problem with parts that I got today from an RMA request.

New components as of today:

Buffalo 512 pc3200
Soltek Motherboard SL-75MRN

New components as of 2 weeks ago

XP2500
WD 80gig 7200rpm 8mb
Antec 350w
Ati 9600pro
Liteon Burner
DVD drive

When I first powered on the previously working HD ?tick tocked? like clock

I then Turned it off.

Turned back on, ticking stopped, the XP 2500 and RAM where detected, it then said
?Primary IDE channel 8- pin conducter not found?

I then tried a different IDE cable with no luck .
I then removed the HD, cleared the CMOS, and it would not post
I then moved the RAM to a different slot, cleared the CMOS, and it would not post
I then removed the battery, and it would not post.

I then tried a different stick of RAM from my roommates computer, reset the CMOS, no post.

So much time and money wasted??So MAD

What should I do?

Don't know, but what is "tick tocked"?

Suggestions:

1) Make sure you are using the proper IDE controller socket

2) take everything out, then put it back together again

The Harddrive made a tick tock sound, like a clock. Really loud, and sounded like it was broke.

Check to see if there are metal studs under your motherboard that do not correspond to screw holes in the motherboard. If there's a metal stud shorting out your board from the underside... :Q

I think the shorting out idea is a good one.

However, is there a way to safely put together the system out of the case? to test?

But i will still look into that.

Yeah, it's safe to lay it on cardboard and run it like that for testing. You may also want to disconnect all the case wiring and use the tip of a screwdriver to trip the Power Button pins manually in order to start it up. Double-check the seating of the video card, confirm that your mouse and keyboard are plugged into their relative ports (if they're PS/2), and confirm that your power supply is set for the correct input voltage for where you live (110V/220V). Good luck Murphq!

ok I took it out of the case and tested it on a piece of cardboard.

I was unable to get it to post.

I also tried taking the memory out and booting, shouldnt the mobo give me a beep code of errors, that tell me that there is no memory, if the answer is yes, then somethings up.

Does anyone think that it could be my processor, the xp2500?

Did you try it with just the essential items (one stick of RAM, keyboard, video and CPU/heatsink)? If not, try that. No drives, no extras. Unplug the system and reset the CMOS too.

Also, you might check my Socket A heatsink installation guide in my sig and verify that you didn't get your heatsink on backwards or something. That could cause Sudden CPU Death Syndrome due to overheat or a cracked core, since a backwards heatsink can't make flat contact with the CPU core.

OK I gave up on the soltek and went out and bought an ABIT NF7-S, I still have the soltek

I put it together with just RAM, Processor, and video card, it started up and gave me the beep code, 1 long, 3 short, then a solid non stop beep that made me want to hurt myself. The screen displayed that it could not find the floppym and boot is halted.

Note that I cleared the CMOS proir to doing anything.

I then cleared the CMOS and removed the video card, still no post.

I then moved the memory to another dimm slot, still no post.

I then took the processor off cleaned it, applied A3 and put it back on.

On boot it did not post, it just turned off.

Turned it back on, and no post.

I think I have had a bad processor the whole time what do you think?

Just a recap, this processor has been in 3 differnet mobos, with 3 different sticks of RAM? All will not even post

If it turns itself off at startup, that's a possible indication of improper heatsink mounting. What heatsink are you using, exactly?

I am using the stock heatsink. I have mounted other HS before, I dont think thats the problem.

I tried reseating the RAM, no luck.

I removed the battery, still no luck.
