This is my first attempt at building a computer. I have been researching a bit and these are the parts that I have come up with so far. The only thing I need help with is choosing the ram.

case: Black p180
mobo: 680i
gfx card: 8800gts
psu: 650w
cpu: e6600 c2d
dvd/cd: dvd/cd drive
heatsink/fan: Scythe Infinity

ram: Kingston hyperx 2gb

or

ram: CORSAIR XMS2 DOMINATOR 2GB

Now, I plan on overclocking this rig a bit in the future ,but the only part I really don't know too much about would be the ram. If anyone could help me pick out some decent ram and give reasons why you chose it over others etc. etc. i'd be very greatful. Also, if anyone has had any "bad" experiences with these parts or think there are better parts out there please feel free to voice your opinions. Anything help at this time would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

good case
motherboard good but overpriced IMO and not worth it for $250
8800GTS great card glad you picked that instead of the GTX also good choice with eVGA
I'd get a Seasonic S12 Energy Plus 550W-650W instead
good processor choice
I'd get SAMSUNG` 18X drive there cheaper than that drive also
not a big fan of the heatsink and fan there is better and quieter

do some more research on the ram not a fan of either of those kits if you want something that overclocks well look into what chips are used in the ram kits.

The Corsair is acceptable although others might recommend Crucial's. Either way, go for the fastest you can afford. You can never be too fast when it comes to rams.

What other types of heatsinks and fans would you suggest? Also, for my p180 case do I need to change any of the fans out?, add more fans? or what. I'm still very new to this so I just want everything to run as well as possible. Thanks for the input so far.

And I just don't know what ram to get at all really. If anyone could post a link to some decent ram that would go well with this rig that'd be great.

Crucial or Ballistix....D9 grasshoppa...I have seen the light. Corsair was using the D9 chips, but I was advised by Roguestar that might not be the case any more.

If you go to ZipZoomFly they have a $40.00 rebate on paired DDR2-800/1000 memory modules. Plus, as always, free shipping.

I love ZZF.

^^ Hah, you've beaten me to it at giving my own advice . Have you made your purchase yet?

1: Corsair don't use D9 in their XMS any more so won't overclock nearly as well as Crucial Ballistix.

2: There's no need for extremely fast RAM if he can get a 3.6Ghz on DDR2-800. In fact, assuming that he was running at a 1:1 ratio, 400Mhz FSB isn't overclocking DDR2-800 RAM at all and 3.6Ghz is definitely towards the top end of what you can get with an E6600. Check out the amount of threads in the CPU/OC forum "my E6600 can't get to 3.6?". Additionally, with that motherboard he can run his RAM unlinked in ratio to the FSB, so he doesn't even need to get DDR2-800.

Yessir! I made the purchase on Saturday but it's still pending....was hoping to spend some quality time putting everything together and running Burn-in type tests during the weekend.

Ah well...the best laid plans of mice and men...

They've got the same chips inside, just the more expensive ones will have performed better in a batch test and got binned to a higher spec.

If you don't plan on ever going SLI I would opt for an intel chipset mobo over that 680i. like a DS3 or similar. Better overall stability.

In the future I do plan on either buying another 8800gts to match or get 2 8800gtx's. As for which ram, which one out of the two seem better? If they both are overpriced or arn't as good compared to others then link me to some other ram.

Also, would something like G.SKILL 4GB be taken into consideration?
