Hello,

first of all, i went from P4 3.0C to E6600. Damn, what a performance difference.. I was really impressed. Anyways, seems that i have problem with HDD. My rig:

E6600 @ 3ghz (stock HSF)
Gigabyte 965P-DS3 (BIOS F9)
Seagate 320GB SATAII
Seagate 80GB SATA
G.Skill 1x2GB

OK, here is the problem. I'm getting delay when clicking on "my computer" and going from one folder to another. It pauses for like 2sec and then opens it. I don't have any delay when playing games or browsing. I didn't have this issue with my old rig. Also, i connect both hard drives with one PSU cable.

A second core is always 3-4C higher than the first one. Is this suppose to be? Load temp is 55C max. Is this normal? Thanks.

One core is always a bit hotter than the other. I have noticed the same thing with my rig.

Dont really know what causes your lag. My guess would be that you missed or botched some driver install. Or that you have an IRQ/DMA conflict issue (which should not exist anymore, but can happen anyway).

My second core is also usually 3C higher than the other. My load temp is also 55C. So I'm gonna say, yep, it's normal.

I'm not sure about your other problem. That could be just about anything. Hard drive issues or windows issues pop to mind.

First off test it with no overclock to see if the problem still exists.

Well, I have seen the same thing. Big pauses in a lot of things compared to my X2. I almost made a post, but figured I would get kiled trying to make the point. Once something is up and running, its OK, but slow to start, and jerky. Also, noticed that the cache makes a big difference sometimes in performance. I think the cache is very critical to the C2D core, and the X2 doesn;t have that problem.

I would bet that more to your system having a problem than the chip. My friend has a gaming system with Core 2 Duo E6700 and has no such problems.

Second thing: Do you guys have the Intel Chipset Installation Utility installed?? It's recommended you install the utility right after the essential programs(like SP2 in XP), then everything else. Not having the utility installed can cause significant degrade in performance(in the order of 30-40% or greater).

Third: I know I had a problem with my system(Celeron D 2.53GHz/WD360) that had to do with HDD performance(super slow window boot times, loading bar in XP would have to pass for 14-15 times, at the peak of the performance degradation, I think I saw it pass 20 times), everything would load noticeably slower, hard drive benchmarks would show 5-6MB/s transfer speed(not the 55MB/s for the drive). The problem?? The SATA connector was fried(think it was my fault). A new mobo fixed the problem.

My system ??? I have 5 more2 systems, and yes, I have that utility installed. If you want more details, Duvie and I can provide facts. Like 2x F@H 1499 units running at half speed if 2 are runnign vs one. The reply on the other 1 meg cache. This doesn;t happen as much with the 6600 2 meg cache (per core) chips.

I notice similar things only when I have been running 2 instance of F@H and I know the newer 149x units tag the cache hard. I mean hard. It will use all 2mb of the cache. Once I shut that down the response is much quicker on most things.

My ATTO benches are right on par so I know it is not my HDD subsystem.

In this case and it may be similar to Mark's it is about the cache being pegged. Also when we have those operations running we use quite a bit of ram. I notice windows virtual memory manager seems to set the pagefile usage all wrong IMO. I can have 200mb of memory left yet my pagefile usage will run from 255 to 600+mb...microsuck does a wonderful job!!!!
