Just saw at www.cusl2.com that there is a new bios! 1002 I think its final. According to the forums there, it seems to have fixed a lot of problems. Lets post our results with the bios upgrade here. thx!

PS Right now I am under 1001A default bios still that came with my mobo. The only problem I really have is the low temp readings. Nothing else is wrong. Thus, I really want to know if 1002 will fix temp readings in an OS like with asus prob or MBM b4 justifying a risky bios flash. thx

The binary compare on 1002.005 and 1002 final are different.....I haven't tried it yet though....will try in a few minutes.

I've seen in other forums that the 1002.005 and the 1002 bios are the same. I wonder if the binary compare is different because they had to change the bios numbering from 1002.005 to 1002 in the code(ie, the number that shows when the computer boots up -- all the other relevant code could be the same).

Please correct me if I am wrong.

Probably because of the numbering change....hehehe....yeah...

Anyway, they still haven't got rid of that no video on restart. Had to short the CLRTC points to get stuff back. I seem stable at 933 with 1.80 volts....only played a few rounds of NFS5P2K...not really a very good indicator. It would lock up after 2 mins at 1.75 volts...

well, that's the BIOS I'm using now. 1002 final.

I've never had the cold boot problem. Only the temp. problem. 1002.bin only fixes the temp in the hardware monitor. MBM 4.18 will still report the same low temps.

I guess Asus, just added 16C to the original BIOS temp. cheap way to fix it. I don't like it one bit.

I was using 1002.005 and am now using 1002, I believe they are both the same. MBM 5 (a prerelease) has a new sensor (Asus 2 CUSL2) that seems to read the temp correctly, maybe. I dont like the results 'tho. My old readings would be 55F idle and 77F at 100% load, now I'm at 89F idle and 109F 100% load. 700e @ 945 w/ GORB & Arctic Silver.

Strafe-

I think those temps sound pretty normal. I'm getting almost identical readings on my P3V4X, 700@933 with an Alpha PEP66. I know the mobos aren't the same, but temps shouldn't differ that much...

I think it's worth the flash. No stability problems for me. Then again, I never had any problems. One thing, it has fixed the USB problem after waking from sleep for me; no more USB hangs. The BIOS temp readings appear to be compensated by 16C. I would flash it. Make sure you do it from a floppy with DOS on it.

I'm sure you can still get it from the ftp.asuscom.de site. If you can't just d/l it from my site.

another vote for worth the flash.

fixed a few minor quirks on my end, agp 4x up and temp readings are normal with the new asus probe. had to take the cmos battery out but that's a minor dealie, i didn't care too much for it.

i can't say the same for some people though, i've been up for a while now with no crashes. some ppl get probs some ppl get fixes, what can i say. depends on your configurations, and don't step into it blind =P

I bought a CUSL2 about a week ago and have had some major stability problems. After a complete fresh install of WinME, same f'ing problems. I've got a P3-700 that I know can do 868mhz on my Aopen MB, but on this POS it can barely pull off 700mhz without registry errors. I figured I had nothing to lose with a BIOS flash so I flashed from 1001A to 1002.

The flash seemed to go fine, but at reboot there was nobody home!

Poof. Dead. Gone. No beep, no squeak, nothing. RMA time!

And where the F is the "clear BIOS" jumper on this thing? I read in some review that it's there but there are no pins, just metal spots you have to short out. Well, where are these damned spots????

Near the "Southbridge" chip. Look for it in the line.....CMOS battery, then southbridge chip (can't miss it), then the CLRTC short points.

Flashed last night and had to remove the battery but other than that I have no problems. USB was a problem with the 1001A but now that has gone away. So 1 more for the new BIOS. Good Luck.

Did anyone else get an error when flashing to 1002? I flashed from 1001a to 1002 last night, and got errors everytime. It said something along the lines of "size doesn't match". I didn't have to pop the battery and when I rebooted, the bios was v1002. Funky. I'm wondering if I should flash it again now that things are running better...

i haven't gotten errors as far as flashing, it's always been successful

you do have to remove the battery after the flash though, that's normal

otherwise the video just doesn't show up

Damn, nobody told me about the remove the battery trick before I flashed.

It needed to die anyway. Stability was pathetic! Maybe #2 will be better...

some people get stability probs, but mine has never been anything but rock solid. the battery removal was pretty much a standard step i believe, almost if not all had to do that one. like i said before, don't go into it blind =P

I did have xxxxxxx.002, and i flashed up for the correct temperature readout.

The readings seem alot more likely and i have had no negative issues.
