New Cyberpower PC and new PNY geForce 3 Ti 200 card -- no video

I just bought a new CyberpowerPC (Ath XP 1600, 512 DDR, etc) and a new PNY geForce 3 Ti 200 card and after slapping the two together, it's not working. The CyberPowerPC uses a Shuttle AK31 motherboard.

When I power it on, I get no video. I get a semi-long beep, then the FDD light comes on, but nothing after that. No video, no setup screen. Nothing. I reseated memory chips, I've reseated all boards, I've removed memory, etc. When I put in a Windows 95 boot disk, it looks like it's working, but again, there's no video at all.

Is there a jumper on the AK31 board to configure an AGP video card, or should this be plug-n-play? Any ideas? Troubleshooting tips?

I just borrowed my friend's RIVA TNT2 card to throw into this box, and it works like a champ. Anyone else having problems with the PNY GeForce 3 Ti 200 boards?

Both the low-end TNT2 and the high-end GeForce3 are AGP cards. Do I need to do something to my shuttle BIOS to get it to work with the GEForce 3 board?

Thanks,
-Mike

Never mind, guys. I figured out the problem. I had to reseat the video board like a mofo with about a couple thousand newtons of pressure. It then stopped doing the long beep and I now have my GeForce 3 board working.

I detected this situation after I plugged in an old TNT2 board and it worked the first time. Then it wouldn't work after I took it out and reinserted it. That clued me in.

petonic,

How do you like your system so far? I think we've got similiar rigs. I went with the Radeon 8500 for $25 over the Ti200. Did you start with the titanium gamer force pro?

I'm having DVD playback problems that I'm trying to track down.

3 case fans my butt... I got one in front, One on the heatsink (not a case fan), one on the north (or is it south) bridge (again not a case fan) one on the gpu, one in the power supply. I went with the mid-tower case tho. the nice full tower wouldn't fit in my desk. There is a spot for a fan in the back (of my case).

They didn't include the little wire for digital audio out of DVD to audio card. Now that's cheap!

I'm having random bsod (winXP) I don't know if it's the system or something I've done.

I was having problems with shutdown, but that seems to have gone away since I flashed the BIOS to latest.

I did latest ATI drivers and latest Audigy.

and like 9 winXP updates already.

Hi Jim --

I like the system so far. It's a smoker. I haven't really gotten into DVD yet, so I haven't noticed the lack of a connection between the DVD drive and the audio card. What I have noticed, however, is that the MOBO supports 4 USB ports and they only wired 2 of them on the back, and didn't wire the two extra. Wondering if I can somehow manage to do that myself.

I do have three fans. One on the front, down below, and then two on the back (one of them is on the power support). In addition, I've got one on the heatsink for the CPU and the GPU. Thing sounds like a B&H helicoptor.

The CDBurner is quick, though, isn't it? That 16x burner blows away my 4x burner from a couple of years ago.

I did the upgrades on WinXP, too. Lots of them out there already -- amazing. But on my P3/500 laptop running Win2K, this new box boots up in about a quarter of the time. I'm wondering how much of that is CPU and how much of that is the new OS?

How did you get the firmware BIOS? Maybe I should install the newest version. Do you have a link?

Finally, I am getting errors (no BSODs) and getting booted out of the two games that I play a lot, now: Empire Earth and Aliens vs. Predators II. Windows XP, both times, report a problem with my graphics card. Maybe it's that seating problem, or maybe it's a software bug. Curious.

Enjoy! and I hope you can let me know about the firmware upgrade.

Thanks!
-Mike

Fans: you must have the full tower...

USB: the mobo can do 6 ports. The case I got had 2 in front which they wired up for me. I think. I haven't tryed to plug anything into them.

DVD cable: the only reason I saw this is because I moved the drive from the top spot in the case to the bottom. Less contortion for me to reach it under my desk.

CDRW: I have an external, so I didn't get one with the system. And mine is only 4x, but I don't do a heck of a lot of burning so it is fine for me.

Upgrade: I came up from a P2/233 win98SE, so you can imagine my joy at the speed

BIOS: http://www.spacewalker.com/english/download.htm try this

I'm not even playing much in the games department yet, and still getting problems.
