OP: Congrats on the new car. Looks like alot of fun to drive. Is this car your daily driver? How is the power delivery in stop and go traffic? Is it pretty smooth?

Looking forward to the OP posting more pics of the car, especially the interior.

Power delivery? Terrible. Power dips at random spots on the tach. You'll be WOT and you'll feel the revs climb steadily while the car goes from powerful to laid back to powerful again. If you happen to punch it while at the point of a dip, you'll think your clutch is slipping. Tunes apparently fix this.

What's also infuriating in stop-and-go is that the revs hang for a few seconds after you let off the gas. Gotta love that electronically controlled throttle plate. That means clutching in and out of first gear, if you want to do it smoothly, *requires* you to wait for the car or slip the clutch if you don't want the person behind you to crash into you. There's ways to work around this, like blipping the throttle before a shift and anticipating the hang to make the next shift smooth but it's kind of ridiculous - apparently tunes fix this too. I test drove an STI last week that had no such affliction, and the STI doesn't come with CVT option, the WRX does.

Leads me to believe the behavior of not immediately closing the throttle plate after letting off the accel pedal is a remnant of CVT ECU mapping, as for automatic drivers, they would be quite concerned if they let off the gas and the entire car just felt as if it lost power. I could understand how it makes automatics smooth and steady, but it's quite an annoyance for the 6 speed.

More opinions on the car to come.

LOL! That's three times what I pay for my Ducati for full coverage.

Because they know if you wreck it, you'll be dead and they won't have to pay out anyway.

Also, what did your Duc cost out the door? Probably half what this rex cost.

Love the new ride! I've been drooling over Rex's myself for far too long, but finding them used is impossible, and I cannot yet afford new cars.

To satisfy the itch of something fun under my ass (and to replace a vehicle that was totaled), I myself just got a 2007 Mazda3 S Grand Touring. It doesn't exactly compare, for many reasons, but it is sort of the top-end Economy car before you get to the Rally-bred machines.
If I can handle the smallness of cargo capacity and sporty suspension, I think the first new vehicle I ever own will be the WRX as planned.

Insurance? Horrendous. Considered not getting the car due to insurance. My original policy holder wanted something to the tune of $188 a month to insure the car with comprehensive. Geico offered me the same at $119.

Male driver, under age of 25 - It's not cheap.

Now, what type of coverage do you have for those rates? I see you mention Comprehensive, but what about Collision?
I'm paying $112/month for Comprehensive ($500 ded) and Collision ($250 ded... it was $3 bucks cheaper for $500 ded, so I said screw it).

My Sebring had a similar policy, but without Collision. That had me paying $70/month.

This is with State Farm in Ohio, having 10 years under their coverage without any accident claims and a couple of speeding tickets, though I have been informed due to having the Mutual policy (as opposed to Standard), tickets won't increase my premium.

Congrats on the Mazda3. I've never understood why Honda and Toyota continued with leading sales through the millennium when Mazda put out such a competitive car. My ex-coworker had a hatch/MT version of your gen and that thing was so capable, it had a turning radius of a damn dime and still pulled to redline with grunt even with 3 people in the car. Way more fun and practical than a corolla or civic.

Insurance - comprehensive and collision with $500 deductibles. The car is financed (1.99%) so the lender got to set the terms of how it is to be insured. And with the information you provided, I can assure you that your driving record is better than mine.

Please... motorcycles are so easy to steal and that is probably half the risk for insuring them. That and parking lot tip overs/low speed accidents. Doesn't take much to total a motorcycle and it certainly doesn't take a fatality.

Umm, yeah, duh. Of course a motorcycle costs less to insure. It's all a cost/risk assessment by the insurance company, no more, no less. A motorcycle in an accident will cost less to cover, and (more significantly) cause less damage. And there aren't as many people potentially affected in a collision.

Have your insurance company quote a brand new 1000cc supersport and then have them quote a Camry and see which one costs more to insure despite the Camry costing twice as much.

Let's not derail this thread though.

Nice car OP. Congrats.

Where's the fun in that? Just used Geico's online quote for a 2014 1000cc Super Sport.

Geico quoted me $135/month after mentioning I had 0 years of experiencing operating a motorcycle. But that is taking into account these discounts:

Anti-Theft Device $12.00
Dual Policy Discount $80.00
Motorcycle Rider Safety Course Discount $167.00

Verdict?

I have no freaking clue.

I guess if you take away the dual policy discount I would pay nearly 200 a month for the bike, so it would stand that motorcycle insurance *is* more expensive and Jules is accurately showing off his e-peen for how little he pays for what would be such expensive insurance.

On the other hand, $200 a month is considering I'm a single male, under the age of 25, with 0 riding experience and a questionable driving history - I'd expect that figure to be much less if I was to trade my driving record and personal profile with Jules...so...I dunno. I'll let the forum decide how big Jules' e-motor-peen is allowed to be.

Nice car, I was going to get a 2015 Base White manual WRX from heuburger subaru. Is that where you got yours?

They quoted me $25,500 + TTL for a base model. I might pony up for the limited when I get back from Florida

Yep, Heuburger in CO Springs.

I'd really recommend going with the Limited for the following:

LED headlamps.

Visibility is better and the are in black surrounds, not chrome, makes the car look way more aggressive. Most people who think that the front is not attractive has seen the car with the base model Chrome headlights, not blacked Limited ones. However, you can mod this with the base model by painting the inner surrounds but it requires you to take apart the headlight. The LED lamps are not plug and play, but you can get LED bulbs if needed.

2. Leather interior really makes it one step closer to a feeling like a near 30k car. Comes with cold weather package which includes heated front seats and heated side mirrors.

3. Sunroof.

Well, for one, I don't ride a sport bike (those are probably the biggest risk and the easiest to damage/total). Second, I have years of riding experience and I have taken the MSF. But yeah, it costs me $38/mo to insure my bike. Honestly, a WRX probably wouldn't cost me much more to insure than my Camry. Being old has its advantages. :awe:

Seriously though, congrats on the car. I'm not crazy about what Subaru has done to the WRX in recent years but they are great cars. Have fun with it man... I'm jelly.

Nice car! I was debating between a rally blue WRX or a tornado red '15 GTI. I went with the VW personally due to availability, but a coworker of mine (rally blue STI owner) and I take turns drooling over each other's cars daily.

I've always liked the WRXs and WRX STis from the outside, as well as admiring their performance... but every time I sit in one, the interior is just very lacking. Nice car though! Hope you enjoy it.

I can understand this perspective. I'm not left unsatisfied with the 2015's interior, but it definitely feels like an economy car dressed up to look like something more. I especially dislike the shiny carbon fiber trim around the HVAC/Radio and the passenger dash. I will be covering it with a non-gloss brushed aluminium vinyl for a final result such as this:

Classes the interior up just a little bit IMO.

Lots of people complain about the interior but once you drive the car you don't care

Honestly I like mine in my 13 its simple and functional.

The thing that bugs me about the new WRX/STi is they look like crap until modded. Then they look amazing. It's like, hey Subaru, can you at least make this thing look some what appealing in stock form? Just my opinion, but over the years stock WRX just keeps getting worse.

Either way congrats on the car, ugly or not, they are still great driver's cars.

They do manage to reinvent the Toyota Corolla every time they come out with a new WRX don't they?

Looks nice, needs a hatch version. Then I'd be interested.

Never had a real problem with Subaru looks... they are somewhat cheesy/childish but for the performance, price, AWD, manual transmission option, reliability etc... tough to beat their cars. I wish the forester didn't grow into a disgusting full sized SUV though. An ~04-08 XT w/6 speed would be my ideal practical/fun type of car.

Lol, the Forester is still pretty small...overall length is 180". It's just bigger than it used to be but the interior space is killer.

Just because I'm bored (and curious), the '05 Forester was 175" long. Similar height too.

I've actually always found them highly attractive, at least with each generation's improvement. The original generations grabbed my attention and heart for reasons that aren't entirely clear, but the new ones have very clean and sharp lines.

I actually don't even mind that the 2015 generation looks less "angry" than the previous generation.

I do mind that there is yet to be a hatch in the 2015 model. Not that that will impact my buying a WRX any more than financial limitations at this point, but if there's no hatch at the time I can afford one, I'll be miffed.

Now the Forester: aye, that model needs some attention from the design gods. It's improved significantly, but if I wanted that style of vehicle, I might not be able to ignore the looks and sacrifice the potential of Subaru's AWD platform by choosing Jeep's Cherokee.

just one question (even though you won't be able to answer it). when the heck will subaru offer a hatch version? I need the utility of the hatch for my business. I guess it's back to VW for me :\
