That's a tough one but I would likely go with two 2001FP. I like having higher resolution so I don't have to scroll as much. Three 1801FP would rock also. I guess it really depended on your preference and eyesight. Can't go wrong with either option IMO.

Definatly the 2 2001's. You'll only need two video cards to drive them, so if you use onboard video + a good video card as the main monitor, you'll be golden.

Of course, some good AGP cards are dual head out of the box (my MSI Ti4200 is), and you might have better luck gaming at 1280x1024 if you do that sort of thing

Wow that's gonna be one sick setup either way you go. The 2 2001fp's are your best choice primarily since there are a lot of dual output cards out there and few tri output card (parhelia is the only one I can think of) and adding seperate PCI cards just doesn't cut it IMO. BTW what will you be using this for?

Yeah I bought the 1800fp on a DEll mistake over a rear ago for under $400 It handles great for gaming and is definitely a great FP

17 or 18" lcd's: well you'd want a refresh rate of 25ms or 16ms, you'll want 1280x1024 resolution with corresponding 5:4 length to height.

Dot pitch is usually about .264mm: don't try for anything larger.

Higher contrasts are better, and so are higher brightnesses. My monitor does 400cd/m^2.

Let's say it's very bright! But hey, I can turn it down

My contrast is 450:1. Cheap ones are like 250:1 or something similar. Higher is better.

Interface: if you can afford one with DVI, they're supposedly quite a bit better.

People have called dell and they state that it is the same monitor as the 1800fp except for extra features like the 4 usb ports built into the monitor.

Problem there is that when you have a "good" deal on either one you still have a $250 price difference. Very tempting some of these prices but then I take a look at top notch CRTs and I find it very hard to justify the price increase. Cant wait for a flat panel monitor that can do 1600x1200 @ 19+ inches at least at 25ms and for under $500...

feature wise it's the same (pivot, 4 USB 2.0 ports, etc.). As for the specs, they have the same difference that the 1800fp and 1901fp had.

I've got a pair of 1800fp's (got them back when the uber deal of $380/each was going, never seen them that low since). On one machine I ran a GeForce4 ti4400 using DVI, on the other I used a GeForce3 using VGA. I play two accounts of Dark Age of Camelot simultaneously. The VGA machine had serious ghosting, whereas the DVI was crisp and fresh.

I would highly suggest using DVI with an LCD monitor if you can. Today I upgraded my primary machine to a Radeon 9800 Pro, and moved the GeForce4 ti4400 into the secondary machine, utilizing the DVI connector on it. The ghosting has gone away.

I had an 1800FP that ran great in analog but all it did was blackout about every 5 minutes when hooked up through DVI, needless to say it went right back to Dell. This is a very well know and common problem that Dell never did fix :|

I have no problems with my 1800FP with DVI connection on my Radeon 9600.
maybe it's your video card. when I had the wrong drivers loaded, DVI wouldn't work right for me.
