There's also a coupon out to take $50 off an 8200, and it worked as of a few minutes ago. So, you can skim another $50 off the 8200 -- putting the price at just under $1300.

Still about $200 too much for me to lose my sanity and order one, though.

Yea, i noticed that too.. Just one thing i noticed on the bebate that made me hesitant if you use the coupon as well, is the system considered regular price??

From the Rebate: "Rebates are redeemable after purchase at regular system price. "

Anyone know?

Not bad but not nearly as hot as the 8100 deal was (still regretting I didn't jump on that). I configured a 4100 for $1,437 - $150 MIR.

Still think I'll wait for the CostCo/Toshiba & Compaq deals in August.

I'm with you aphex, I love my 8100. The 8200 sounds nice though. Can take a gig of ram, more than the 8100. BTW, I just got one of those $100 off coupons with a biz catalog, so check your mail, you might have one. If not, make sure you go to the biz section and request a catalog, that way they'll start sending them to you.

Does anyone know what the battery life is on these? They aren't exactly tiny, so hopefully the battery is decent, or am I just being hopeful ?

My 8100 gets ~3 hours on a fully charged single battery with normal usage...

dpm, make sure you choose a fixed optical drive, ideally the combo, keeping both front bays open for dual batteries, easily giving you a full days work.

typing on my uxga 8200 right now... the screen is gorgeous!!! if you're worried about small fonts, just increase it and it still looks great because the pixels are so small... i think it is .19 in uxga and .21 in sxga... check the dell for more info. if you have more dough, get the enhanced uxga for 400:1 contrast as opposed to the regular 250:1 in uxga. i got in on the last 8200 deal and very happy.

This is great. I've been waiting for a good deal on a Laptop. The $150 MIR and the Free Display Upgrade are in my opinion a way better deal than the cdrw upgrade.

If anyone is interested in this, I urge you to take the $150 MIR instead of the memory upgrade. Dell is quite funny with their memory configurations. They charge $150 to go from 128mb (1 dimm) to 256mb (2 dimm). However, they sell the 128mb 1 Dimm Upgrade in their software and acessories store for only $49 (even less with the coupons you can use on that part of the store). So apparently they charge $100 for installation. I'm going to save $100 and install the extra dimm myself.

Does anyone know how long the Free Display Upgrade is going to last? Its not a 1 day thing is it? If I buy this after June 20th then I won't have to pay for it until August 20th because of the way my Discover Card works.

Even better than that, buy extra ram through Crucial when there is a 20% and coupon sale... I got a 256 meg chip for my laptop for $64 or so...

One thing to consider with the display upgrades is that having a native resolution of 1600x1200 is pretty silly on a 15" monitor. Then, when you want to use a more reasonable 1024x768, it looks fuzzy, given the tendency of LCD's to only look crisp at native resolutions.

I just ordered an Inspiron 8200 for our company and actually had to accept a "not so great" deal because the 15" Latitudes that we get price breaks on all have UXGA and we need a lower native resolution.

I agree that the UXGA is problematic at 1600 x 1200. So I'm probably going to get the 4100. UXGA probably looks crisp at 800x600 since every 4 pixels would become one, but seems like that is not the way to solve the problem.

Personally i LOVE my native 1600x1200 resolution on the 15" screen. Its simply GEORGOUS.

BTW: Define problematic?

gritz, I mentioned this in an earlier thread, our company bought 4 4100's of which I set up, and I found them to be incredibly flimsy, particularly the screen. Simply touching the back of the screen sent ripples throughout the lcd, which besides making me uncomfortable, was annoying as hell. the insprions on the other hand feel quite solid IMHO.

RossMAN:

How good is the Costco/ Compaq deal in August? I am looking for a laptop and hate the dell's cheap feel. Compaq looks pretty good right now.
