The 34 cm XTX version does exist and will be for OEMs. Apparently the retail version will be 9 inches. Dont make much sense but looks like more pics will be leakedsoon enough.

Here is a pic of the fan while installed in a computer.

I would have chuckled at your first sarcastic comment, but the second just made me

"Just an extension to keep the card stable with such a large/heavy cooling solution is all. I've seen the same thing on X1950's in another XPS system, and see it all the time in workstations.

Most of these types of long cards extensions will fit in a snap-in-place mechanism located in in the front. It's meant to make the long cards' (wich sometimes happen to be OEMs versions) different coolings more secure to install and tight-in-place when moving the whole case around imo. As system providers like former Alienware and others tend to like to implement additional measures in their systems to secure the add-in cards in-place for obvious reasons"

Common sense that I was preaching for some time now. Unfortunately people are averse to common sense these days.

Would you mind NOT dragging me into this thank you?!

I'll actually be very pleased that ATi/AMD fans can burchase an R600 based card - I'd hate for them to feel they were forced into purchasing an nvidia solution...

Enough already, wreckage.

Seriously ... thanks, Wreckage!

you single handedly bring more *news* and *bumps* to this thread than anyone ...

mahalo for bringing r600 to everyone's attention

it's been kinda 'dead' on the DAAMiT front for news .... as people wait [and wait] for r600
and Barcelona. ... if either of these fail ... it's *bye-bye* DAAMiT ...

Intel wins

just tidbits
AMD AND ATI made a commitment and said to the world+dog that it plans to have R600 launched in Q1. It repeated these words just recently in front of so many faces.

We can confirm one more time that the R600 will be built on an 80 nanometre process and that it supports shader model 4.0 also known as the Unified Shader model. This means that the card is fully DirectX 10 compatible. ATI is happy to say that XboX 360 is its first Unifed Shader product and R600 is second generation. This is supposed to imply that R600 might learn the Unified Shader lesson better than Nvidia. But Nvidia's G80 still did the job first months before R600.

The chip supports HDCP and HDMI if you want, and is optimised for High Definition playback. The chip will decode Blu-ray or HD DVD. It doesn?t care about the media, a lot like the INQ.

Of course, the card supports Crossfire and as far as we know we are talking about cable less Crossfire. This is the first high end chip to support no external cable Crossfire and AMD is so clappy happy about it. Maybe Nvidia will now stop calling it MissFire.

Chip production is scheduled for February 2007 and we can confirmed that the final chips are about to see the face. Beta cards were wandering around the selected developers but those were DDR 3 while the final stuff has DDR4. Final launch with availability is March ...

ha, ha, ha. I doubt it.

SLI 2.0 is coming.
All of us know that neither Nvidia or ATI think highly of either's dual gpu tech, remember the "leak" slides from both sides.

So unless you belong to either one side, its no use on harping about it.

Looks like R600 is going to be another R520.

If it does make it to the market in numbers in April, I'm sure ATI will have the R680 or whatever ready in June to combat G81.

Just posting the news. If you only want one side of the story, you need to go elsewhere. I think it's important to get all of the news, not just what you want to hear.

As long as its significantly better than G80, who cares. I'm sure the enthusiast crowd who bought the G80 will go after the latest chick in town (if she turns out to be  )

Personally like always I'm eyeing mainstream card from Nvidia. Since their Vista drivers are slightly better than garbage, I'm willing to go with ATI provided their midrange has comparable performance figures.
