Question New Display for 3 Different Systems

So we got a PS5 for Christmas for my son (and I, though he doesn't think so), so I want to get him a new display for his birthday in January. My plan is to hook up the PS5, Switch, and PC all to one display so I need several inputs. Unfortunately, that's about all I know I need. Does anyone have any suggestions for a budget under $300? Plan is to play primarily sports games and Minecraft for now.

I do realize this might end up as a TV so if this thread heads in that direction, probably best to move it to that forum.

If you want all of them to directly connect, you're more likely to find what you're looking for in a TV rather than a monitor. That said, you could always simply get an HDMI switcher (like this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0865JJLHD/) and push a button on that rather than a remote or the display itself.

How big of a screen are you looking for, what is the viewing distance, and what type of outputs do you have available from each? I know the Switch needs HDMI, and presumably, the PS5 is also HDMI. Do you need audio in the display too, or are you handling that separately?

Many monitors come with an appropriate level of inputs at that price range. A 27" QHD monitor capable of ~180 Hz refresh I bought in November for $280 has 2x HDMI and a DisplayPort, which could easily satisfy the use case you're looking at. HDMI for the consoles, DisplayPort for the PC.

I am probably looking at 27-30 inch monitors. Hadn't even thought about the sound since I am used to using tvs for the gaming systems, but definitely have to think about that now. Thank you for pointing that out. Viewing distance is probably going to be 4-6 feet. Might be longer if we go with a couch vs two chairs up close.

Output from Switch and PS5 are HDMI. PC is using a GTX 970 so I think I've got hdmi and display port options there.

I am gonna head to Microcenter this week to poke around. I am sure amazon has more choices and better prices, but I'd prefer to buy something like this from a B&M store.

At 4-6 feet, it sounds like a TV could be a better bet, since you could probably go with something at 40" and it would cover the audio needs. You'd just want enough inputs or to use an HDMI switcher. Something smaller might be a bit underwhelming at that distance.

For reference, I have a 27" QHD monitor at about arm's length for my gaming PC, and our switch is attached to a 42" 1080p TV with a couch at 6-8 feet (we could go with a bigger TV, but waiting until we move in a year or two or until this one dies since it's ~11.5 years old). The 27" at arm's length is pretty great for covering my visual field without being too big for viewing or my desk.

The kicker is, my daughter will blow a gasket if my son gets a TV vs a monitor since he is younger. May just have to accept underwhelming for the time being

Does an HDMI splitter introduce any more input lag?
