It's too bad EVGA doesn't come up with their own (good) competitive cooling solution. Gigabyte, MSI, and even smaller players like galaxy have great custom cooling solutions.

I have always been a sucker for the reference coolers. I think they are the cleanest/classiest looking. OTOH, I'm not one to be concerned about heat or noise either.

-I'm exactly the opposite. I don't even really overclock my cards except for fun (to see how far they'll go then I return them to stock) but my last two retail cards (GTX460 & HD4850) were both MSI thanks to their excellent aftermarket cooling.

If EVGA offered a really solid aftermarket option like MSI does (not their funny DS plastic versions), I would buy EVGA only and never look back...

I was an EVGA user for the better part of 8 years until my most recent graphics cards purchase I went with ASUS (GTX 460 DC) because of its much better cooling.

Part of the reason was my RMA'd 9800GT AR came back and exhibited the exact same problems as the one I shipped back to them did only a week after I received it.

However, this might actually get me back to EVGA when Kepler comes around.

Also, EVGA does have their own custom cooling cards (Classified series - 2WIN), but they cost close to 1.5X anyone elses at the high end.

Agreed with this, but their stock coolers (least on the lower side GTX 460/GTX 560 ti) are relatively cool and quiet.

I only buy EVGA in this house hold for NV Products. All the rest are a joke. Bought a stock EVGA GTX 460, after consistent issues with TDR, they gave me a GTX 460 SC (paid difference, like $20) and let me keep the stock card. That's a company who'll always get my money

Whatever the cause it's rare for companies to step up and offer something (at their cost) extra to anyone.

Rare, but not unknown. Patriot extended the warranty of their original TorqX SSDs to 10 years retrospectively, and didn't Intel raise SSD warranties to 5 years?

Evga has always been golden. my old gtx 260, without asking, sent me a new fan with a note saying "Thanks for being a fan!".

lol

and on and on and on.

Why do you think EVGA cards are clocked the highest out of all manufactures from the factory?

Not with stock cooling or even 'good' cooling, but rather the best cooling.

Basically you're 100% wrong.

They'll still send you some refurb for replacement.

Other than that, pretty cool.

I met some EVGA employees at some tech shows... pretty cool people...gave me free T-Shirts without me even asking... The cross ship is good now since gas prices are high... the EVGA office is about 30 minutes from where I live... I have a GTX 570 now... my brother is buying my MOBO and CPU so looking to upgrade soon... thinking about selling it to get the new 600 series...

They're probably doing this to get a leg up in Kepler sales. I think that means they know they'll sell well and that it's worth the cost to them to improve the warranty.

Edit: wow, now we know the day of Keplar's release, LOL! I April 2nd.

This is a very good sign for Kepler. A big reason that everybody lowered warranty coverage during the dark days of fermi was that nobody felt confident in their longevity. More confidence in 28nm = win for everybody.

Does XFX still have liftetime? Any other AMD vendors offer that?

Did anyone else see this news update today? EVGA has changed their warranty policy and I have to say, there is almost no point to purchase a brand other than EVGA now.. Pretty impressive...

- No longer have to register for warranty.
- Free crosshipping service(no longer have to send your card in and wait to receive a new one)
- Warranty now TRANSFERS to additional owner as warranty is for product(like Asus, MSI, etc), not the user.

Ive been debating going back to Nvidia from my AMD 5770 I own now and looks like that pretty much answered which brand name to go with.

Wow, I am impressed.
They actually beat the XFX warranty.

No, I'm not. I know those cards exist. Their cooling solutions are inferior to the competitions. Their "best" factory overclocked cards pale in comparison to ASUS's matrix line, MSI's lightning, and Gigabytes SOC.

Wrong again.
The classified ultra runs @ 900Mhz next closest is Gigabytes SOC @ 855Mhz and EVGA has three that run at that speed.

This is not even including hydro coppers which of course is best cooling again offered only by EVGA.

What the card comes clocked at != best cooling solution. How effective the heatsink and fans operate determines how good the cooling solution is. And, again, EVGA does not have the most effective in-house cooling solution vs. other AIB vendors. Specifically I am referring to air cooing, since the vast majority of AIB vendors do not offer cards with water blocks. I am not trying to offend you, there is no need to take it personal. It's just a matter of fact. When you compare temperatures and noise levels, MSI, Gigabyte, and ASUS have better heatsink /fan options.

When considering heatsink performance I also consider removing the heat from the case. Here, EVGA and HIS make higher performance coolers that do remove the heat. For me, this is a very important consideration.

This is true. The most effective heatsink/fan combos usually dump quite a bit of heat back into the case, so if expelling it is a top priority, then an open-air cooling design is out of the question.

I'd still be using eVGA now if that ridiculous Newegg shell shocker for an MSI GTX460 Lightning for $100 didn't happen last year. Good to see they're still improving.

Well you can't get better from an AIB than the Hydo-copper line. Aside from that I agree with you. It's too bad no other AIBs have stepped up to the plate on LC solutions (so you don't have to void your warranty) - so I think EVGA deserves major props for this.

EVGA announced a new global warranty policy Tuesday, giving all products a minimum of 3 years warranty and optional registration.
Jacob Freeman, an EVGA product manager, told Hardware Canucks that the company went this route for multiple reasons, primarily to simplify and improve their warranty terms.
In a press release, EVGA outlined the key items of the new warranty policy:

  • 3 Year Warranty Minimum – All EVGA products will carry a minimum warranty of 3 years.
  • Warranty is now Transferrable – EVGA Global Warranty will cover the product, not the user. The warranty term starts on the date of purchase if user has invoice, or manufacture date if not.
  • Warranty Upgrades – Warranty upgrades are now available for the original owner upon registration. A 5 or 10 year warranty upgrade is available for a small price.
  • EVGA Step-Up Enhanced – Now the EVGA Step-Up program is available for any EVGA graphics or motherboard product with Warranty Upgrade.
  • Global Warranty Policy – An EVGA product is covered under warranty, no matter where you live. If you purchase a product in another country, you will be served by your local warranty center.
  • Free Standard Cross-Shipping RMA – Basic cross shipping service is now free.
This new warranty policy will be automatically applied on any products purchased on or after July 1st, 2011.

So 3 years is now standard, lifetime is gone, and you have to upgrade to 5 or 10 year to get access to step up program--is that right?
