Hi, I've been lurking around for a bit and this is my first post. a little background. I just built myself a new shuttle, and I've partitioned my single SATA drive into four partitions. OS, Page file, Programs, and Media. Ive just installed spybot on my programs partition, and when trying to run the scan I get the message "please insert disk into drive: device\harddisk1\dr5" over and over until I cancel the scan. I've googled it and all i can come up with is people having problems with qttask, but nothing else. Anyway I got this message 3 times again when trying to install Yahoo messenger, but i clicked cancel and it proceeded to install. No problems with Yahoo otherwise. But i still cannot run the spybot scan. Im guessing it has something to do with the path, but i dont have a harddisk1. only a 0. Anyone know whats going on? Please help!

Welcome to the Forums To start with, do you have a spyware issue you're trying to overcome, or are you just taking preventive measures? The qttask could be a CoolWebSearch malware component, or it could be legit if you have Apple Quicktime installed.

Since SATA is considered a removable type of drive by Windows sometimes, it could be that your program directory is on a different partition than the OS. How about try installing to the C:\ partition and see if that changes the behavior

Thanks mechBgon. no spyware issues, just a new computer and want to install spybot for security. I think I know what you're talking about regarding the SATA drive. The thing is, mine is mounted as drive F. For some reason, it installed my usb card reader as drive C. I think that Im going to try to change my card reader to a different letter and see what happens, as obviously i cant change F. I'm tryin to keep my program files separated from my OS to keep things clean on the drive, so if all else fails, I guess I can reinstall XP with the usb drive disconnected. Maybe then it will recognise my hard drive as C? We shall see what happens!

Ohhh, yep, you will need to eliminate the USB drive and any PATA hard drives to get C: for your system partition. If it were me, I'd start over too, since it would drive me crazy to have my system partion be F:

I have security suggestions specifically for initial and ongoing security with a fresh WinXP install, right here. The ongoing prevention part has some stuff I highly recommend, in particular the securing of the Admin-class accounts with strong passwords (including the hidden built-in Administrator account that you can't normally view) and using a Limited account for daily-driver stuff (which completely declaws many types of exploits that are counting on Administrator privileges to do their dirty work). Good luck!

Just put an "n" on the end of "SATA," that's what I do
