The Arc Midi HP case looks like a great alternative to Antec. It has removable HDD bays and seems to have a great airflow setup. I'm also a big fan of the looks, nothing too flashy here.

It always helps to have choices!

Fractal Design seems like a good case manufacturer. They've been compared to Corsair for less money. I like everything but the white colors inside but there's no window so it doesn't really matter.

Don't know if I'd compare them to Corsair cases. The old adage is true, you tend to get what you pay for; sounds like Fractal Design cases have their share of build quality issues, or at least they have in the past maybe newer ones are better. But most cheaper cases do, not like this is something that's exclusive to Fractal Design. Their cases offer great bang for the buck, though, a lot of nice features for not a lot of money. And I love the minimalist design, always good to have another case manufacturer who realizes that not every enthusiast wants those gaudy cases like look like something out of an Aliens movie.

A Fractal Design ARC Mini will be arriving next Tuesday. Paid around USD$105 with shipping. I've been shopping for a mATX case for months and almost went with In-Win's Dragon Slayer (around USD$80). The Dragon Slayer seems like a great mATX case but the Fractal Design has a couple advantages:
-It's wide (holds rear 120mm fan while In-Win's DS holds a hard to find 90mm one).
-Fractal Design's looks (sleek and plain).
-USB3 MoBo connector (It's about time all cases come equipped with these). And there's your $ 20 difference.
-Top Mounts for water cooling.

The cons I've heard of:
-White accents inside (no one seem to like this).
-Front Fans mounted on the bezel with clips.
-Some radiators don't fit on factory screw holes layout on the top.
-The ARC Midi model's top mesh deforms.

I'll be checking on this case and will post some impressions here and there.

I waited for this case for MONTHS! It was initially scheduled for January release, then got delayed. I emailed Fractal and they said "maybe April." I couldn't wait any longer, so in May I went with the Fractal R3 instead. Seeing as how it took till July/August to be available, that was a good decision.

Oh, and I like the white accents!

Just wanted to say I love the black/white 2-tone thing they've got going on, from the case accents to the fans. Much better than everything black or worse everything black with blue LEDs.

I have an R3 myself. They are awesome cases for the price. And yes the corsair cases are better build quality but not by much, and you pay $100 more for those cases...

Looking forward to your review Michael! Do you plan on adding any case fans?

I've always worked on ATX mid cases. Simply put, I've got fed up with all those empty bays, slots and everything that I'm paying for that's absolutely no use ever.

For a while, I was considering the idea of going mATX but there was no luring choice for me until the ASUS Maximus IV Gene-Z showed up. Now that's a big board in a mATX factor with way more than I need.

As I said before, I've been looking for months for a case that could fit an ANTEC Kuhler 920 and the In-Win Dragon Slayer has that possibility right at the front (check my other posts) and the Fractal Design Arc Mini showed up. After watching some reviews and that modder-biker-look alike guy's video, well... what do you know?

So, in regards of your question, I have the Antec 920 to be set on the back, the 140mm supplied fan will live upstairs, a Cooler Master Blade Master PWM 120mm will go on the side and I have an Aero Cool Black Shark 120mm which covers any possibilities if needed, specially considering the bottom extra fan which happens to be conveniently filtered.

I have not seen any Fractal Design fan in action. That's why I have so many aftermarket fans ready to go. We'll see if they earn a place in this build.

To give you an Idea of how I handle my projects, I'm revamping a Lian-Li PC-G50. It's an inverted ATX case which happens to be really convenient in size but has terrible air circulation. This case is 5yr old and it looks as if just arrived. Had it on the back storage for a while and since my In-Win mid case is so banged after an accident, the Lian-li is coming back but with some changes (not modding) that surely will enhance it's cooling properties.

3 days to go.. expect a review and first thoughts right here hopefuly before the next weekend.

I truly expect this to be a gr8 chassis.

I've been using a Core 3000 for a few months, and I think it's a great case for the price. (paid around 65$ from ncix.ca)

Finally a cheap modern take on case design. They look really good for that price. I enjoy the design of them all. I specifically like the use of large fans, and the hard drive makeup. I don't know why many cases have 5+ external 5.25in drive bays. Do they expect us to be burning a shat ton of CD's? The cases also look like they are aluminum.

Edit: ah plastic fronts? Boo

I just built a machine for a friend in the Fractal Arc Midi. Honestly it was a complete joy to build in and is one of my cleanest builds yet. Granted it is a simple single video card, 1 hard drive, 1 ssd system, so keeping it clean was pretty easy

Sounds like they have a solid case in the arc midi!

Ok, I finished my build yesterday and here are a couple of notes:

-The fans: This case came with 2X120 and 1X140mm fans. White bladed and black housing, they provide adequate SILENT airflow. Also, a fan control w/molex input capable to handle 3 fans is included and the case comes with a vertical slot on the back in which the controller should be installed. As many controllers, only the last 1/6 of turn does the trick, so try to keep it in mind. I've set the 2X120mm at the front (intake) and left the 140mm at the top (exhaust). I've put another 120mm CM Blade Master PWM at the bottom (intake). The back carries the Antec Kuhler 920 which fits just perfectly. On a side note about cases, fans and cooling, always try to create positive pressure in your case.. I'll post a review on this build explaining how it works.

-Exterior finish and looks: You'd agree that the pictures are ugly after you see it in person. No offense (and I'm an aluminum enthusiast too) but the finish of the front bezel assembly is better than any black aluminum I've seen. The reason for this is that aluminum looks smeared (fingerprints and simple cleaning are the cause), and also, the texture on this plastic bezel is deeper than usual aluminum, which enhances the texture effect. The top cover needs improvement ASAP!: The sponge filter setup and overall quality (structure wise) don't belong to this case. It needs to be reinforced in multiple points and I'd strongly suggest to the manufacturer to ditch the foam and go plastic for the filters (both front and top). This is a problem and I can't imagine how worse it is for the Midi model. The top cover finish is fine and goes very well with the case, so it's just a structural issue of the plastic itself. The rubber feet are just fantastic. Rubber is soft enough to absorb anything, yet sturdy and the chromed rings make it subtly elegant... This case is an aesthetics winner.

-Build/interior finish: Ok, it is intended to be tool less and it comes with a bunch of thumb screws but you need a screwdriver (allen style phillips included) simply because the interior and exterior metal finish is coarse powder coating, which looks and feels fantastic but this material gets in the way of the screws making them hard to turn the first couple of times.. they ease off later on but some are very hard to deal with by hand at the beginning. The cable management is excellent.. I'd make the grommets out of a stronger rubber but they're ok. You have 1 inch behind the MoBo, which made the installation a sweet 2 hrs. Everything coincides, fits and behaves logically. Not many cases are as easy to deal with.

***So far: If it wasn't for the structural quality of the top bezel and the foam filters, this could be the perfect case on it's price range. For some time I've thought that the filtering material was a personal preference and not a real issue, making me feel biased on the topic but now I'm 100% sure that foam filters are a cutting corner strategy on the manufacturers part. Simply by comparing the superb quality and layout of the long plastic bottom filter and the one of those foam filters provided ON THIS SAME CASE, anyone will understand that plastic filters require specific design, thinking and solving in order to work properly. Foam filters attached with bent metal meshes should be considered as an insult. So, join me in the crusade against foam filters.

More about this build soon.

I'm just awaiting a Fractal Design Core 3000. They have something appealing and I like the white fan.

Build quality seems more or less fine on my R3. I did manage to damage on of the threads for securing the sides, so I do get some nasty ressonance issues. I expect this to be resolved once I get my hands on a rethreading tool.

Makes me think though if I should replace those fingerscrews with real ones...?

Alright I posted this up on ars forum a couple weeks back, I will repost it here, with some pics. Unfortunately I have been gone on vacation and haven't had much more time to fool with the fans and get more in depth but so far I like
the arc mini alot! I think these are great cases for the money...

Alright I have had my case a few days and thought I'd share some opinions of it. Now keep in mind this is the mini case but these are the same design as the mid. First of all the case arrived for once without dents in it, first case I have gotten in awhile that that was the case I like the design elements of the white coloring here and there on different parts of the case, but I will say that you have to be extra careful, because the white paint can very easily come off. I read about this in another review, where someone had removed one of the drive bays alot, and it was transferring some white paint onto the case. I did not have this problem yet, but I can see how if you got very aggro with it, or stuck the drive holder in at a angle this could happen easily. I do like the fact that the drive bays are setup with 2.5 mounting holes, because crazy as it is alot of ssds still do not come with adapters. I used a owc mercury pro6g you would think a 300 dollar drive would come with a adapter, but it doesn't. Also for some reason the bottom mounting screw holes are a weird size or something so I had to use laptop case screws for that. That is not fractal's fault, but I do think that cases by now should have provisions for 2.5 drives so I was glad to see I didn't have to find a adapter.

It's amazing also how many new cases still do not have usb 3.0 support, and this one does have a front 3.0 port. It does not help me because my asrock pro3m doesn't have a front 3.0 header, but it's still a nice option for later if I change boards etc. I can see with the size of the 3.0 header how it would be hard to find space on a matx board to add it. You can tell from this case right off that there is going to be tons of airflow capability to keep things cool IF the fans are good quality. Everything is filtered which is nice. Unfortunately the fan quality is a area I cannot comment on, as I have only had time to get the system built and still have not routed wires or tidied up anything or put the sidecover on. With that being said, it is a nice feature that you get a fan controller with this case. Since I am shooting for low noise I appreciated this. This is the first time I have gotten one included before and it is a nice option to have. I used a x-400 seasonic fanless psu and it fit fine and has plenty of space for airflow to keep it cool.

Now for the negatives, I was a bit disappointed in the thumbscrews. One of the features of higher end or nice cases is the tool-less features and this case comes with thumbscrews galore. However, most of the threads do not seem machined perfectly, so the screws do not go in and out smoothly. I had to bust out a screwdriver on most of them, which takes away the whole benefit and point of it. Another thing that really bugged me was that when I mounted the psu, the thumscrews they included are not quite long enough to get through the case and into the psu! There was barely enough thread to get a bite, but at least on one corner because of tolerances or whatever I could never get any of the screws started at all. I had to end up using two other thumbscrews I had from another case, which had longer threads and worked perfectly, but it looks stupid since they are chrome and not black. I will paint them later or something. It seems the flange or part of the case that the psu mounts against is thicker than most and this is what leads to the issue, but Fractal really needs to send screws a few mm longer and the problem would be eliminated. The only other gripe I have so far is the size, I had expected this case to be a bit smaller, but to be fair the measurements are given obvously on the frontend. This seems more to me like a smaller mid tower, with maybe one of the top optical drive bays missing. Now for some this will probably be a plus, I know alot like this case because you can run water cooling, and run bigger video cards etc. Personally I would have rather see them lower the height and width of the case some, I think they could have gone at least a inch or two more with both but I know why the width is there, with the size cpu coolers some are running these days. Everything is a compromise I guess and alot of people that are used to full towers and the like would probably hold a different opinion. Compared to my last case, a lian li pc-k62 this one is tons lighter and shorter. Anyway here are some pics I took so far...
