What scares me is you only beat my system with a 6800 GT by 25 points... Very nice system either way. I couldn't see spending that kinda money for not a huge speed upgrade myself, but Im also poor Also know 3DMark is totally GPU related, not CPU. That's why I went with the 6800GT tho, cheaper for same speed.

Nice rig. BTW i have the same case and my front door LEDS did not work for 2 days then poof magically they came on and never went out again. Gremlins i guess!!

Case is great and has nice features but honestly it could be much easier to work with such as removable mainboard tray and the pre-drilled screwholes for standoffs plain suck. Same issue i have seen in 3 of these cases. I had to use a tiny socket to get mine in. Also not allowing a drive cover for the very top slot is retarded since alot of people would not use that slot. (i don't) refering to the inner metal plate.

Also top USB/Firewire ports are virtually useless to keep a nice tidy case so out they came. Also would be nice to have 1 drive bay made so you can screw into it. My PSU has front fan controller but the purple rails wont work on it and no holes to screw it in so had to use the rear PCI controller. Not exactly the best place to use a fan controller.

Anyhow enough rants NICE RIG!!!!!!!

An Ingame setting won't mean its in there, Doom3 has the same settings for myself, but I believe it doesn't work (never tried, its already slow enough at 4x ). What I BELIEVE is happening is, you're setting it to 6x in the stress test, but since Nvidia cards can't do 6x, it just does not do it at all. No AA... no performance hit, so your benchmarks show it higher than it really should be, since AA isn't really enabled.

I suggest you re-test at 4x and 8x, and post your results.

Jonathan

No sweat.

Yea...I guess if nvidai doesn't support 6x, then your explanation makes perfect sense. Thanks. But now, when I enable 16x and run the stress test, it freezes and crashes everytime w/windows reporting a problem w/the nvidia driver. I'm assuming this it b/c I'm oc'ed? Dont know.

Anyway, here is the new bench:

Valve Stress Test - (1600x1200, 4x AA, 8x AF, Everything Enabled) - 87.91 fps

As for an 8x AA benchmark....I don't have that option. Do you?

That's a crazy system though.
So are you going to get a nice phase change cooling next so you can make your athlonfx55 to fx-60?!?!

Yea...I'm in the process of shopping around for some new speakers. I'm holding off b/c I'm trying to figure out if the wife is going to allow me to run 5.1 in the study.

Any suggestions? I've heard the logitech's rock.

And as for the $3000 system....it wasn't. Check my earlier post on pg. 2 for the cost.

I don't know about your overclock and the 16x, it might be something wrong with the Source engine or Nvidia's drivers. It would be awkward if ONLY 16x was affected by overclocking, and nothing else. You can try running your GPU at regular speeds, retesting and seeing if that helps any, but I doubt it.

I'm pretty sure Nvidia doesn't do 6xAA, and as I stated earlier, I think it defaults back to 0xAA instead, so there was no performance hit.

Your newer results sound MUCH more realistic than the 10fps performance hit you stated earlier. Its actually somewhat similar to the Firing Squad results I posted earlier.

In order to enable 8xAA, you will likely have to do that via Drivers settings instead of In-Game settings. It will look like this. I never used this stress test, so I am unsure what is and what is not available, but you will likely have to change it from the desktop instead of ingame.

If you are disappointed with your new result, keep in mind, 87.91fps is PLENTY fast for such settings... I'm pretty sure your monitor can't even refresh that quickly at that resolution. I wonder if 8xAA is playable on your system :Q.

Only Klipsch Promedia Ultra 5.1 would be worthy to pair up with a high-end system on an audigy plat.

I would try to get that case off the floor some. The dust , static, and possible circulation problems may arise. imo

My Sandra cpu arith = 12k
My cpu multimedia = 24k - 26k
My memory bandwidth = 5.8k

Is this a Via vs. NF3 ultra deal? Via kicks that much ass in Sandra?
My benchmarks in sandra seem to be in line with all other Nforce 3 ultra users w/this proc

Comments?

My sandra taken @ default clocks

Man...I have no idea. I couldn't imagine a chipset making THAT much of a difference. I'm a sandra noob, so I'm probably little help--sorry.

Let me ask you guys a new question: Right now, my mem is set to 'Auto' in the BIOS. A couple people have suggested that I go in and change it to '2:1 DDR400'.
Is this wise? Or would this stress the FSB more than the already stressed 130nm FX55 can handle? How dangerous is this?

This might be asking too much, but could you post the exact source and price for each component? I've got about that much to spend, but the system I'm looking at right now is inferior, and costs about as much. So it'd be great if i could find where all the fat is, and get some better prices (hopefully).

Well if you read my earlier post, you'll see that I was able to pull some key components out of my old rig (and even got my $500 video card for free).

But, basically, I ordered almost all of my stuff from www.newegg.com . The FX55 was ordered from www.monarchcomputer.com .

However, the absolute best place to shop for the lowest prices is at www.pricewatch.com . I would strongly suggest that you go there and search for your components individually. Be warry of shipping charges and try to find some places that ship for free .

For example - 2nd shipping on my new Klipsch speakers is $70, but newegg is offering standard fedex shipping on them for free. And the last time that I ordered from them w/fedex standard, the products arrived in 2 -3 days.

Good luck with the system and keep us updated on your decisions.

Don't know what else I could need.

THIS MAKES PERFECT SENSE NOW.

What you should do is test individual sandra benches under Benchmarking Modules. They actually show the benches in terms of arithmetic units, MB/sec for hard drive and memory bandwidth, instead a "score" (as you have in the combined performance index you posted). No wonder there is such a large discrepancy between you and other users who use Sisoftware sandra who have FX55s

Sweet...didn't know there was a difference.
Okay...here are your benches (don't really know what to make of 'em since they're differenct numbers):

2
3
4
5

Let me know what you guys think.

Russian - Thanks again for pointing this out.

Thanks a ton. Your system is one of the finest I've ever seen. I only hope that someday I'll be able to clean up all the drool that came out of my mouth looking at the pics...awesome apartment, BTW.

Phhhh could have went with a cheaper CPU and got another Ultra and the system would kick way more ass for the same price.

It's funny how you didn't read the whole post and you simply dissed his system. He didn't pay for the Ultra videocard, therefore, he didn't spend as much as you think he did. Besides no Nforce 4 motherboard are available; and good luck finding 2 6800Ultra PCIe for less than $600 a piece (or finding them period).

Another ultra would have required that I went to PCIe, and, if you'd read my earlier posts, you would've seen that I got an AGP Ultra for free. Adding 2 new PCIe Ultra's would've cost around $1200 more than I've already spent. This way I can wait for a couple of iterations of gpu's to go through before I go to PCIe and possibly SLi.
