I've been following Far Cry since they released some screenshots and movies several months ago. The graphics and physics looked amazing in the movie. I just played the single player demo for about 30 minutes and I was *REALLY* impressed. I mean, stand on the dock and look around - wow. Then look down into the water - WOW! This game look so good I'm getting caught up in looking at the surroundings rather than the enemy.

All I can say is, "Well done". I'll be dropping my $50 or whatever it costs.

for you Radeon owners if you are having problems with corrupted graphics on the rocks and player models, open up the systemcfg with notepad and change the renderer to OpenGL and all is very purty. AA works too.

Is the final game going to have multiplayer?

The water and jungle graphics are the best I've seen. It's fairly sluggish on my 9600XT with FSAA; funs fairly smoothly with it off. But that probably has more to do with my P4 2.0A and single-channel PC2100 DDR system than my GPU.

that...game...is....awesome... Friend of mine is playing it on his workstation with a P4 3.06GHz, 1GB RAM and Radeon 9800 Pro with 1280x1024 and "high" anti aliasing in the game. It runs so-so but it looks soooooooo schweet!

yeah there's a closed MP beta test taking place now.

there will be free for all DM, TDM, and Assault - red vs blue where blue attacks bases and tries to capture them, red can build forts and stuff, good laugh. More modes are expected too, someone dug through the files and found some (i.e. ctf etc).

IIRC there's a MP preview somewhere on computerandvideogames.com

I changed from D3D9 to OpenGl. It runs better now.
Its a little stuttery, but the game doesnt come out till after my big upgrade, so the stuttering will be fixed......

All I can find is "systemcfg.lua" and the line "d3d9_TextureFilter = "TRILINEAR".

Do I simply just change it to "OpenGl_TextureFilter = "TRILINEAR"?

Graphics are very nice, sound effects are not. If it didn't show you firing the pistol you wouldn't know it. Weakest gun sounds ever.

edit: The graphics are amazing. I could drive around in the boat all day just taking in the scenery. And multiplayer could be crazy in that kind of island environment.

I was about to d/l this demo cause it looks sweet as hell but has anyone been running it on an older system? I got a 1.33ghz, 512mb sdram, Radeon 64 DDR. I might be lucky to run 800x600 decently I think!

This isn't exactly what you are looking for, but with my system (xp 1800+, ti4400, 512 mb ddr), I don't even pull 30 fps at 1024x768. It definitely takes a lot to run, but the graphics are worth it, to say the least.

Finally got a decent download and better (at this time) than Bit Torrent. After seeing some graphics I can't wait to install this

I was able to cure the corrupt graphics (on things like rocks) by going to my drivers and setting the graphics to Custom and specifically setting the AA and AF to application preference. I have had no problems with graphics since then.

The game runs fine for me unless there are opponents running around in my area. My system specs are:

XP1700+
512MB PC133 RAM
Radeon 9800 PRO

I think that the reason the game stutters is because my CPU and memory are slow...especially the memory. It doesn't seem to matter whether I'm running at 1280x1024 or 800x600, the game still stutters at the same places. I will definitely have to upgrade before this or D3/HL2 comes out.

I think the game looks amazing and the game physics are well balanced. I especially like the way the aiming work were it moves around almost all the time. Makes you wait to take that sniper shot. I also like the MP5 SMG with silencer; I was able to pick off guards without alerting the rest of the compound.

I think I'll need to upgrade my CPU to play this game well.

T-bird 1.2Ghz on a ECS VIA KT266A board with 1GB of DDR Ram and a 9600 Pro pumping out the eye candy. I played with FSAA off as well, I'm thinking UBISoft with fix the graphics problem before launching the game.

Ran it last night, It ran great. I will say up front that gaming for me, is all about multiplayer as I have a very difficult time getting into single player missions. With that being said I must say that I was fairly impressed with the AI. It was almost as good as playing against a handful of 12 year olds rather than some bot.

The sounds left much to be desired. The gun sounds in particular were weak. The graphics were great. The death animations were sub par. I am an SOFII fan that enjoys some minor gore. Red puffs don't do much for me. The Terrain was great. The gun accuracy for the semi-auto/automatics was just right. I found the physics to be a little quirky. Jumping made me feel like I was playing on the moon. It takes forever to get to the ground. On the other hand it might just be due to playing too much AA.

I can only guess how insane the multiplayer is going to be.

I didn't check frames but I never had any problems at any time.

XP 2500+ OCd to 3200+
1G 3200
9700 Pro
1024X768
AA&AF set to app pref.

I had the MP beta running on a GF3ti200 (susprisingly fine FPS offline, at 1024x768@32 with everything on low). Certainly the ingame options allow a LOT of scaling up/down the graphics, although it was almost certainly the tastiest thing I've seen run in any playable way on my GF3ti200, now I have a 9800pro and with everything on high it's the tastiest thing I've seen run, bar none.

There's lots of stuff people have been finding they can enable by tweaking the game files, like OpenGL mode actually does work, deformable terrain, proper water reflections... Cant know wether some of this stuff is disabled because it was unfinished, currently too buggy or is currently only not intended for Far Cry but is for CryEngine.

I have a similarly speced machine here;
XP1800
768mb PC133
9700PRO.
So i`d imagine that our systems run at about the same speed in everything.
At 1280x1024 everything at high(with 16xAF Performance), it runs very well, but as soon as a NPC come near, the game stutters, more NPCs and it stutters even more.
Hopefully a combination of the full version being tweaked and my upgrade will make it more than playable at 1280x1024@Max.
