HELP.....

Ok guys I just downloaded the demo

I have 2.6@3.2 ghz + 512mb of RAM, 7200rpm 8mb cache hard drive, Radeon 8500 64mb, Cats 4.1

I first set everything on high 1600x1200 to see if i can get higher than 5fps lol, and it took me literally 5 min at the loading screen??? whats up with that ? 5 min to load the game? My processor and hard drive arent that slow.

After that it was 1fps .... I couldnt figure it out there is no way my videocard is that slow with this game when I can play any game out there at 1600x1200 with max details and sitll get higher than 1 fps!!! lol (at least 10! lol) Of course i did this just for kicks...

well anyways i lowered everything to 1024x768 and everything to LOW

still 1fps!

alright then checked task Manager it says using up 540mb of RAm but i only have 512! And at 1600x1200 it said i was using 683 mb of ram!

Then lowered settings to 640x480 (all you can see is colours no textures) but the game played and ran smoothly...

Then i fired up my Need for Speed Underground and let it run at 1280x1024 ran like butter and that game is graphically intense...

Then I figure my problem is lack of RaM and this game needs 1gb of ram?? But it says min requirement is 256mb and 1ghz processor, recommended 2ghz and 512 ram i have that too.....I dont get it any ideas? No other game on my computer experiences this severly slow down!

I understand thats what my logical conclusion is but almost everyone here who said they ran the game has 512 ram and not 1 gig!

Plus it says the required is 256 and recommended 512 officially

Thats like saying you are required to have 1gig to run this game???? Thats insane! Who is gonna go out and spend $100 on ram just to play 1 game?

This is bugging me cause others seems to be running it flawlessly with the same or less ram that i have.

256MB of RAM is barely enough even for Windows XP. 512MB should be fine for the game, although 1GB wouldn't hurt with games nowadays.

I can only guess how insane the multiplayer is going to be.

Can you imagine a bunch of people driving around in gunboats shooting it up? It blows my mind thinking about how awesome that could be. Imagine capture the flag on an archipelago map like the one in the demo. Amazing. I can't believe I hadn't even heard of this game before this week. I love it.

I understand that, but I find it hard to believe that with 512mb of Ram my computer runs this game at 1 frame per second unless I select the lowest possible resolution and quality levels....Think about it I run Unreal 2 at 1600x1200 and I can still play it....why this game is retardedly slow on my computer is a puzzle. I even reinstalled the drivers, nothing

I'm running the demo with 512k of pc2700 ram, and a 2.7gig P4. The game takes about 35 sec to load and runs real smooth. My vid card is a Radeon 9800np, guess I'm one of the lucky ones. ronach

EDit: Also useing the 4.1 catalyst drivers.

Official specs are allways way too optimistic though.

C&C Generals, Planetside, DX2, SimCity4 all run far better and smoother with 1gb ram than 512mb.

The sniper rifle in this game rocks. So much zoom....craziness. If you haven't downloaded the demo yet, do so now.

It's definitely something with your computer settings then. Make sure you aren't forcing FSAA and AA.

I have the same problem as russiansensation, the game is very jerky at any setting. The only way I could get it to run at all smooth was using low settings at 800 X 600. Also set texture filter to anistropic and the level at 4. Horrible graphics but it ran somewhat smoothly. I think low memory was the issue as the hd was doing lots of seeking. Or maybe need newest drivers.

9700pro Omega 3.10, P 2.4c, kingston hyper x pc 3500 256mb X 2. Guess if I am going to play this game I will need more memory.

Luckily I do not really like army type games, though I enjoy space type fps

The demo is fun but for some strange reason it fubard my sound. After installing everything outside of the demo has tons of reverb (KOTOR, tv tuner, even windows sounds) but in the demo the voices and sound effects are perfect. I couldn't figure it out so I ran system restore and my sound is fine again. Oh well.

I seemed to already have all the extra stuff. I want to try out that hang glider though.

Well, the game apparantly disables certain things by default depending on your system ("lower end" systems get things disabled). The hang glider rocks, although it did seem like it was a little bit glitchy. I'm not complaining though, because a) its a demo and b) the hang glider isnt even supposed to be in it.

If you look around the forums you'll find all sorts of other tweaks you can perform. Stuff like god mode, very hard mode, disabling of the helicopters that kill you when you try and leave the mission boundarys, underwater driving, and other stuff. I was at all lan today with over 50 people, but I spent most of my time playing this demo. The full game is going to rock.

Well I took the advice on driverheaven, Zardon I think. Uninstalled the game, deleted the folder and reinstalled. Then ran the demo with out touching any settings. Ran much better, was playable with some jerky frames during battle. Actually a fun game! I will try some of the other tweaks later.
9700 pro, p2.4c, kingston 3500 hyper X 256mb x 2. I think I will have to upgrade the ram if I get into games like this.

This demo has the biggest map ever, IMO.
A game well done. It is smooth - except some larger fights - on my CeleronT 1300 + GF3 rig at 1024x768, all details at the maximum, shadows turned off. I'm suprised DX8 water can look so good. I thought the game will need a DX9 card to be beautiful.

If you can believe it, it is supposed to look even better on a DX9 card. It's the best looking water in a game that I've ever seen, and I'm running a ti4400. Far Cry's entire environment is the best I've ever seen. In my opinion, this is the closest thing to a graphical quantum leap that we've seen in a long time.

I reckon this is the best leap forward since the original Unreal came out Even now, Unreal looks just as awesome as some of today's games

And that's really pretty sad. I realize this is only the demo, but playing a game like Far Cry really makes a person realize how painfully mediocre most games are.

If you haven't noticed yet, I really really like this game. If you didn't download the demo yet, stop whatever you're doing and do so now.

I can't seem to find how to enable God mode. Can you point me in the right direction?
