If you can believe it, it is supposed to look even better on a DX9 card. It's the best looking water in a game that I've ever seen, and I'm running a ti4400. Far Cry's entire environment is the best I've ever seen. In my opinion, this is the closest thing to a graphical quantum leap that we've seen in a long time.

I reckon this is the best leap forward since the original Unreal came out Even now, Unreal looks just as awesome as some of today's games

And that's really pretty sad. I realize this is only the demo, but playing a game like Far Cry really makes a person realize how painfully mediocre most games are.

If you haven't noticed yet, I really really like this game. If you didn't download the demo yet, stop whatever you're doing and do so now.

This is sooo true. The game has breathtaking graphics and shadows. I don't understand why most of the games have to be so mediocre. Are they so fvckin bored? Most of the games are just slightly better versions of console releases, and no one is bothered with things like that. Only flight simulators practically distinguish PC's quality. And yes DOWNLOAD THE DEMO if you haven't done it by now. It will worth every byte you d/l,and you can finally say: Yes now I'm playing an "ACTUAL" pc game.

Yeah, you have to love a game that actually takes advantage of the power of the pc. If the FarCry devs can make a game that looks this good, someone else should be able to as well. Don't get me wrong- solid gameplay is absolutely necessary, but that doesn't mean graphics aren't great. I especially hate it when a game is watered down for consoles and then the pc version is terrible because of it. I hope this game is never ported to a console. This game could help things add up to excellent year for the pc.

Anyways, from what I've read, early signs of a solid mod scene are already developing. It's obviously too early to see how these will turn out (we don't have the game yet), but it's nice to see that people are interested in it. Plus, a "WYSIWYP" (what you see is what you play) style editor is going to ship with the game that supposedly will make it very easy to make your own maps. In one of the game videos available for download it shows several clips of someone making a map, and I have to say, it does look very easy. And it doesn't take much of an imagination to realize you could make some really crazy maps with this game.

That's *exactly* what I thought when I first saw the Far Cry demo. I remember way back when Unreal came out. The graphics inside the crashed ship were great but when I got outside it was amazing. I'm looking around at stuff I've never seen before in a game. A huge outdoor area with things flying around in the sky and native creatures munching on grass. Then I walked up to the edge of that cliff and saw the waterfall across the way. That totally blew me away. I called my (then) wife in to see it and even she was stunned by the graphics. Nothing has come along since then that made me say, "Wow!". Until Far Cry that is...

To me Far Cry appears to be the next step up in graphics and physics in a game. I'm very happy to hear modders are already looking at what they can do with this thing. Kudos to Ubisoft. You've got my $$$ the day it hits the shelf.

I keep my CDs in pristine condition. The only scratches on my CDs are the ones that you get from usage. But i only stated that to make you feel worse!

Try some big online store, they usually do older games, and cheap as well.
Of course, i dont have that problem, as my CD is scratch free, and reads perfectly in my CD drive......

Kudos to Ubisoft. You've got my $$$ the day it hits the shelf.

The game wasn't actually developed by Ubisoft, it was developed by Crytek (although Ubisoft will probably be getting most of your money anyway). Ubisoft would have found a way to work a couple of dozen serious bugs into the demo. Then they would gradually try and get rid of the bugs with a series of worthless patches that actual create more problems than they solve.

If i was gonna be honest, i knew about FarCry long before it came to any media attention.
My old GF3 Ti200, came with a beta tech demo called X-Isle, a tech demo designed to show off both my GF3 Ti200 & the CryEngine.
By getting updates/info from the CryTech website, i found out about FarCry, a game that was slowly being produced, with the CryEngine as the base. At the time, i could see that a game based on the engine would be awsome, and now its a reality, im right!. lol.
Unfortunatelly, i wont run on non nVidia DX8+ cards. So i can`t run it on my 9700pro.

There are plenty of people over on the Far Cry forums running the game on a 9700pro. Many of them are getting horrible performance, but they are playing it nonetheless.

I think he was talking about the tech demo X-Isle. (I was able to run FC successfully on my 9700Pro as well.)

This is correct. However what does concern me is the Multiplayer aspect of the game. If the online side of the game is run by UbiSoft, will we have to register with their apaulingly Cr@p servers and that terrible launching applet? If it is I'm going to be soo racked off I can tell ya. :frown:

Multiplayer in those jungle areas is going to be awsome (server pending that is)

Hellooooooo,

About this game, well I haven't download it yet, and not sure if I will, since I don't like the idea of installing demos on my PC ... bad experiences

Anyway, here my ideas:

[1] The game is a DEMO, so there may be lot's of improvements/corrections to make ... even some performance adjustments ... just wait for it, and then try it out

[2] By the movies/screenies I came to see for some months now, I presume this game will be a must ... if only they can deliver a great MP game, with good tools to help prevent hackering/cheating ...

[3] Well, about release dates:

FarCry: 26 March 2004
Half Life 2: 2 April 2004
Doom 3: 1 December 2004
(from amazon)

So ... GREAT move from Crytek ... releasing the FarCry masterpice to fill with shame the competition

Eh, if FarCry comes up to expectations, there's a possibility of a HL2 & Doom3 flop ...

... as far as I'm concerned, HL2 and Doom3 aren't no more those great titles we were expecting them to be ... to much time coming out, and as time goes by ... games become "old" before coming out. They sure will be good titles, but no more MUST titles as they were some 6-12 months ago ...

This will be a great year!

Jagged Alliance 2: Urban Caos
Silent Storm
FarCry (let's just hope there is no delay)
UFO: Aftermath

And maybe:
Half Life 2 ... uhm this one will probably leak to the web again, and delayed for another 6 months
Doom 3 ... well, this one doesn't count ... it will be available "When it's Finished!", so put some 18 months more ...

"But if you want to see what DX9 level graphics look like, or need to justify your 256MB GeRadeon XT Ultra 5 billion, Far Cry is definitely the game to do it."

This will be a great year!

You forgot Soldner, UT2k4, Hitman 3, and probably some other games. A great year indeed.

Edit: Something is worrying me...

From the FS Demo Review:

Well, the difference is that the Far Cry island is literally island ? it?s not a series of levels. For the purposes of the demo, the player is limited to a relatively small section of it, but that relatively small section is still huge.

The island present in the demo better not be the only island in the game. It isn't that big, even if you enable god mode and cruise around the entire thing. There's a long thread on this issue over in the Far Cry forums, and everyone seems to be split on it. It will be a shame if the one island ends up being the only one in the entire game.

another edit False Alarm

After reading more of the thread I mentioned above, it seems that there will be at least 5 islands, of these, the one featured in the demo is the smallest.

Excellent.

No one mentioned it yet, but did anyone notice that this game actually is DD 5.1 encoded? You can select DD 5.1 in the sound options. That's a pretty big deal, as I don't know of any other games that have offered that yet. Now people using a digital out to their surround recievers can experience surround sound!

Again, some relativelly small company develops an AWESOME game and the next day becomes a reference game and company!

After that all other companies "copy" the features, and still that company starts to grow ... grow ... grow ... until it becomes a fat-a$$-full-of-money company, who starts selling crap titles based on past-successfull franchises.

Uhm ... where did I saw this before? Let's see ... IDSoftware anyone? Valve?

I hope that if this game will be in fact a mark on PC gaming industry, they continue to IMPROVE that. I don't mind to have a multi-million company around, if they continue to push PC games ... and they can do so on other genres ...

DeusEx2 had it.
But FarCrys does it better, as it also gives the option for the SoundCard to decode the surround, so it doesnt limit you to having to have a SoundStorm or external Decoder to get the surround.

I can see where your coming from, by IDs last games havnt been crap, they just wer`nt as ground breaking as their earlyer titles.
And Valve? Are you mad? Apart from HL1 & TFC, what have they come out with? OF, BlueS (i would have used full abriviation...)CS, and loads of other things associated with HL were/are all 3rd party addons.
