New game 'Faster than light'

I prefer the gog version because there is no DRM. You can always install it from gog.com and then add a shortcut to steam if you want it in your steam game list.

And yeah, I've pretty much convinced myself to get the game.

I picked it up and I admit its fun but it has virtually no depth. You basically just start the game and get as far as you can dealing with random encounters just trying to scrap enough money (scrap) together to keep your ship repaired and upgraded. For the money it is pretty good and I think is worth the purchase, just don't be expecting something more than it really is, which is where I was let down but only slightly. I just wish there was more variety. Combat gets very repetitive.

I get what the developer was going for and its a good first try. I think the basic design is sound and will do extremely well if placed into a more complex story based game. I'm looking forward to where they go next with this series.

Yeah I was afraid of that, was the main reason I didn't back it. Creators said it was based on a Star Trek - like experience, but didn't really elaborate. I was afraid it would be pretty shallow. Then again, for $9 you can only expect so much, and the developers did only want 10,000 to start with (so they never really hyped it as anything else).

The long-term depth is a bit lacking, but there is easily more than $10 worth of entertainment with this one. They really need to get this game ported to tablets asap. It's a perfect kill 30 minutes here and there game.

Looks interesting if it gets good reviews. I like short games with decent replayability.

It reminds me of the old PC game Weird Worlds: Return to Infinite Space. Which was converted to the iPad last year.

If this was closer to a Roguelike and had an expansive, free roam option then I'd love it 100 times more than I already do.

I believe the time-limit/"chase" aspect of the game is for balance. If you were allowed to clear out entire sectors, you'd become extremely overpowered and it would make the game too easy.

This is ridiculously fun. Agree that it's not "deep", but I was still up until 2am playing it.

I would have been happy paying $20, for $9 or whatever it's a steal.

Yup I got it on kickstarter, played the beta, it was pretty fun, haven't played it recently though.

I grabbed it yesterday and am liking it. I agree with everybody here though about it lacking depth. It's a good time waster and is good fun. I think I might like it better than SPAZ.

It would be nice to see a new layer of depth added somehow. There are a lot of ways this could be done.

Does anybody know if the developers plan on doing more with this game or is it a cash grab?

I like space and I've recently discovered that I like rougelikes. I bought dungeons of dredmor and it was fun! I bought this at gog and played a few rounds. It's pretty neat what you can do. I hope in the future that they add more options. granted, I've only been to sector 5 on easy and unlocked the first ship which is very peace oriented.

A phone might be too small. I'd play it on a tablet.
