I just bought the SIMS2 today and was very happy until I found out I was forced to install direct x 9.0c over 9.0b and I wonder WHY do I have to install 9.0C if the features in 9.0c only benifit nvidia cards (Ultra 6800)? I ask this because when I installed SImcity 4 I was very pleased to know that despite it said I SHOULD install DX9 over DX7 on my 2000 machine, I decided not to because it was only a 2.5MB Video card yet the game runs fine ever since. So now I wonder, how do I install this game with out installing DX9.0c because when I first installed 9.0c I noticed a 10% performance hit with all of my games which is why I would like to stick with 9.0b.

Naa, I think it was an actual final End-user release because I installed it only recently. When running the game right now with the system clocked at 2.8GHZ the game is sluggish but when I overclock it to 3.5GHZ the game isn't so sluggish. It's very ODD for a game like this to be more demanding than FARCRY! Farcry ran great with the P4's standard speed of 2.8GHZ but the Sims2 seems to really be demanding and I'm wondering if, like I said it's the new DXDIAG version or something else. I running on a ALL In Wonder Radeon 9800PRo card, 1GB of ram and a processor overclocked to 3.5GHZ so no bottlenecks here!

BTW what I meant was: When I FIRST used windows 3.1, I realized how great of an operating system it is. Windows 3.1 was and still is a great operating system, made GUI operating systems the norm. (Of course apple was one of the first to pioneer it but agian Apple is not mainstream).

EDIT: not DXDIAG, Direct X.

If your seeing that much of a difference between b and c, you had a debug build. Did you download it DIRECTLY from Microsoft?

like I said it's the new DXDIAG version or something else

First, the word dxdiag doesn't even appear in your original post. So 'like I said' is false. As for your amazing isolation of the problem 'dxdiag or something else'

With this thinking I should of never went past DX7 on my old AIW 7500 since it didn't support anything newer. Isn't the point of DirectX to have a common set of APIs for games to choose from and the developer doesn't need to worry about the underlying hardware? Your game requires a certain call in 9.0c you can't get around it.

Are you absolutely sure that your AIW 7500 couldn't take advantage of DX8 or 9 features? My AIW Rage 128PRO a DX6 card, according to DX9 with the latest drivers it has DDI Version of 8. All I am saying is that if DX9C doesn't have any new features compaired to B I dont see why I should have to use C. It's such a small upgrade, they didn't even bother calling it 10 because otherwise more would be expected. It seems as though people were getting issues with the games so they made it mandatory to install this new version but what they should have done, is made it a requirement if you had under DX9.

Besobel: What I meant was Direct X version not DXDIAG version.

Apple might have been the first to pioneer a GUI, but Amiga was the first to make it great
