So after my last gaming (Q6600) computer died after nearly 8 years of use I was out of gaming for months as I did not have the funds at the time to build a new computer. But that has changed as my parents have purchased me a new custom gaming rig that I will be picking up at Micro Center on Wednesday for my Christmas/Birthday present as my birthday is close to Christmas . I purchased a bunch of parts and had them build the computer for me on Sunday.

Here is the specs.

CPU: AMD FX 8350 8 Core

Motherboard: ASUS M5A99FX PRO R2.0

RAM: Crucial Ballistix Tactical 8GB DDR3-1600 (PC3-12800)

Hardrive: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7,200 RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s

Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770 Superclocked w/ACX Cooler 2048MB GDDR5

PSU: EVGA SuperNova 750 Gold Fully Modular

Case: Cosair Carbide Series 400R Mid Tower ATX Gaming Computer Case

CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper N520

Optical Drive: Lite-ON 24X SATA DVD Burner

Operating System: Windows 8.1 64-bit System Builders

I am extremely excited to pick it up I will keep you guys posted after I get everything set up.

I was only allocated a certain amount so I could not add more ram or get a better video card. But I am satisfied with the build so far. I can always add more RAM in the future. Also, I dont plan on getting an SSD until I can find one with over 500gb for under $80 which will be ways off. I might upgrade my Hard Drive to a Hybrid drive in the future as well but this Seagate will be fine for now.

i couldn't live with a non SSD for an OS disk, i jumped on the OCZ agility years ago when it dropped to $2/gb, i still think even for an OS drive only and a hybrid for storage would give you a much smoother PC experience. Though HDDs and ram are easy to upgrade. Enjoy the new rig.

get an R9 290X and stick with 8GB. 16GB offers little to no advantage in most games.

I would definitely get an SSD before anything else! Forget the video card upgrade or RAM upgrade! An SSD is going to make your everyday usage smoother and give you better minimum framerates, too. And minimums are what you notice most, so if I were you, I would definitely get a small SSD to tide you over until your 500GB $80 one shows up.

Guys, it's already built apparently, and it's a good build.

OP, DO NOT BUY A HYBRID DRIVE. It's a huge waste of bucks for a desktop.

Just get a 128G or larger SSD for your OS + main games. Map everything else (docs/music/yadda yadda) to your 1TB when you do get that SSD. Decent SSDs are 500+MB/sec across the whole drive, hybrids have smallish mediocre SSD cache on a regular drive, and distinctly underperform legit SSDs.

I bought a laptop with a hard drive recently. After using SSDs for years, this felt like the laggiest thing I've ever used, despite having a Sandy Bridge i5 and 8GB of RAM.

Immediately bought a Samsung 840 Pro a couple of days after I got the laptop.

IMO a computer without an SSD these days is simply painful to use. So very laggy.

Have fun with the FX system. You won't regret having the 8350. Its still an impressive CPU that won't disappoint you(for me the best CPU AMD ever made).

The trick here is to hold out as long as you can on experiencing an SSD. If you never get used to having it on one computer, you won't feel so bogged-down on another. I haven't gotten one yet because I don't need to reboot or play games enough, so I don't worry about getting a SSD for my browser and VLC. I don't have any reason to complain about my PC's performance for general use at the moment, but I know that as soon as I take the SSD plunge, I'll never go back.

Congrats on the new system. But, about this comment:

That may be never unless you wait a decade and buy used. Buying an SSD is the best money I've ever spent on computer parts, bar none. And given the price of 128GB units right now, almost silly to wait considering the performance increase realized.

Nice!

Meh, ssd is nice but if I had to choose between a small SSD and a lesser gpu or your bigger HD and a 770 I'd go the same as you did.

FPS uber alles

if these are the only benefits you believe for having an ssd you will need to update your info.

doing any new build without including a SSD is silly, it's the single best 'upgrade' you can do for a system running a regular HD. Mechanical hard drives are a huge bottleneck...please put one in from the get go!

well, you are excited about your new PC and that's good, it's a pretty good PC that's for sure, but since you exposed your selection of parts here I think it's natural to have some "criticism",

well, I think most here talking about SSD are right, it's not going to affect games in general, but load times are nicer, and I think any chances of hard drive related stutter while gaming is reduced...

also, when it comes to the CPU (not going to mention Intel here), the 8320 is a nicer option.

Gamers will tend to update their video card drivers a lot, and that drudgery is made much nicer with an SSD. I forgot how annoying a computer without an SSD can be, until I just built another rig for mining cryptocurrency, and it was annoying to sit there letting the hard drive try to uncompress all those files for the video install, compared to my main rig that has an SSD and just zips through it.

isnt the i5 4670 in the same ballpark money wise? Think that would have been a better gaming option.

Building a new PC without an SSD today at least for the OS would be like going back to the dark ages for me. I had the misfortune to stay at a friend's recently and even trying to use FB or send emails on his PC with just a disk drive felt like a Buddhist patience exercise -it was incredibly frustrating. If you seriously aren't going to get an SSD which for me three years ago was my biggest most positively transformative PC upgrade ever you probably need to try a PC that has one. It really is a total no-brainer, a 50-60GB costs very little these days.
The trick here is to hold out as long as you can on experiencing an SSD. If you never get used to having it on one computer, you won't feel so bogged-down on another. The same rationale would work perfectly for gaming in black and white vs colour on a 14 inch CRT monitor rather than a 24inch LCD. Only a total moron would dismiss the benefits and ease/pleasure of use everyday not to mention the huge time saving of having an SSD. I'm not calling anyone a moron just saying that any PC newly built today to be used for anything at all would benefit hugely from the OS on an SSD.
