My system is open bench and quite...

My F3 spinpoint has really started to annoy me because its the loudest thing in my setup...

Yes, I believe it's the hard drive indicator light. It should show activity fairly often not just during startup though.

No the HDD LED is on the front of my PC case.

This LED is actually on the Motherboard and has wording boot device underneath it and is solid red instead of green or white.

I have read up on some forums that some people had boot issues of posting issues when this LED came up except the light was on continuously.

The LED only shows up on boot and goes away once windows boots up.

I just want to make sure nothing is failing and its normal. The last thing I want is to have my brand new gaming rig fail on me a couple days, weeks or months later.

Speaking of drive noise...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qWkUFxItWmU

I concur with the others on loud drives - though my 10,000RPM drive seems remarkably quiet! Must be a good case...?

yes a well insulated case and the position of the tower can make a difference in how loud the computer sounds.

i've with most of you on hard drive noise and its the reason I only have 1 HD in my tower the other is ESATA.

My motherboard has a red light upon booting also. It goes away once booted and everything is fine. I wouldn't be concerned about that.
Also, I love how you had your rig built, picked it up and started using it and the entire time people spammed you with 3 pages telling you to get an SSD and a different video card.
Enjoy your rig. If you don't have BF4, I'd suggest getting it. Also, Far Cry 3 is insanely fun and I think you'd love it.

Guys, it's already built apparently, and it's a good build.

OP, DO NOT BUY A HYBRID DRIVE. It's a huge waste of bucks for a desktop.

Just get a 128G or larger SSD for your OS + main games. Map everything else (docs/music/yadda yadda) to your 1TB when you do get that SSD. Decent SSDs are 500+MB/sec across the whole drive, hybrids have smallish mediocre SSD cache on a regular drive, and distinctly underperform legit SSDs.

getting the mapping perfect (Windows 7's "libraries" make it a PITA) requires sym links which Win7 sucks at

What possible reason would you have to buy a poky old FX with a dead end socket? If you are going for a 770 surely you could afford a H87 + 4670 setup (and the mobo would be cheaper too, ironically) instead which would leave that FX chip dead in the water for gaming and dump way less heat.

Considering most HDDs are quiet to begin with, and the matter of the video card's own fan, I have doubts that HDD noise is ever really considered, or worth considering for that matter, unless you go Passive Cooling on everything.

you must have hearing problems or something louder is running in your computer, cos whenever I need to access my 1 TB WDblack or 1TB SG barr. I hear the noise when they wake up from sleep.

now, when they are spinning, I hear them quite clearly.

I agree that HDDs spinning are annoying. Hardly loud, but audible when just sitting at my desk without a headset on. Installing an SSD for OS and main programs does help, though. Yet another reason to get an SSD..!

These days I don't really hear the HDD's, I remember Maxtors used to be very noisy and I used to have arrays of 10Krpm SCSI's that sounded like a jet, even the new Velociraptor HDD's are quiet now.

Everyones version of quiet is different.

I've owned raptors and I can hear the drive when its seeking or waking up from sleep.

But other factors are also important.

1. How close you sit to the tower.

2. how many HD's are in the tower.

3. Is the computer in a room where its the only device making noise.

Yeah I wouldn't call my F3 loud, it's just annoy considering how quite everything else is.

Everyone has different tastes and tolerances....

If fact I wasn't even blown away when I got my first SSD. Sure I booted Windows faster, and rebooting to tweak overclocks was much better but I didn't appreciate it like I should have...

That was until it failed and I was stuck on my HDD for two weeks, which became the worst two weeks of my life... (Over Dramatization)

But yeah, it's one of those things... You don't know what you're missing until you try it, and you don't fully appreciate what you had until you lose it.

Ended up replacing my PSU under warranty with a way better one EVGA SuperNOVA NEX750G 750 Watt ATX 12V Power Supply

After receiving my new gaming rig for Christmas/Birthday, I have been loving it. I purchased a Cosair CX750M due to have modular cables, great power, and awesome price per value along with great reviews.

However, I am getting the notorious coil whine/hissing already when playing games. It can be hidden when my speakers are on, but when quite it gets annoying. This really happens only during high loads.

Microcenter took care of my computer and I ended up getting the EVGA NEX750W Gold Rated Fully Modular PSU.

It cost me about $40 more but I think it was well worth it.

The tech guy I got friendly with called me and knew what it was right away.

He said the PSU I bought is way better than the "crappy cx series" he had dealt with many returns with this particular PSU.

The EVGA Supernova is a decent PSU but not even close to the best in its class. Seasonic G750 or X750 would have been much better options.
