It's been awhile, I have been out of the PC gaming\hardware scene for about 6 years, below are my current specs (a bit dated I know), I am looking for a modest upgrade, my current specs did me well for awhile if that gives you a better understanding of my comfort level.

Mobo: Z170A SLI Plus

CPU: i7-6700K 4.00GHz

Memory: Kingston HyperX FURY Black 16GB 2133MHz DDR4

GPU: Radeon RX 580 8GB

Power Supply: EVGA 600 B1, 80+ BRONZE 600W

I am not looking to replace or upgarde, I am looking to put together a new build.

I'd say my budget would be around $1000 - $1200 on the high-end, I appreciate any suggestions. Thanks. I

Gaming mostly, Division, Deep Rock Galactic, I don't run anything GPU intensive

For purely gaming you could go with either AMD or Intel on the CPU side. AMD would be the AM5 platform which has had one series of CPUs released so far (Ryzen 7000) and a new series set to be released around this summer (Ryzen 9000). Intel is on the last series of its LGA1700 platform (14000, but 13000 series CPUs have nearly the same performance for a little less money). AM5 uses DDR5 memory, while Intel depends on the motherboard you choose. Some boards are DDR4 and some are DDR5. DDR4 is a little cheaper, but not much. For the GPU I would stick with AMD at your price point.

Use pcpartpicker.com to plan your PC build. It's a great way to choose parts. Once you put something together you can post it here for our thoughts.

Here's what I would look at:

CPU - AMD 7600/7700, Intel 13400/13600
CPU Cooler - Thermalright Peerless Assassin or Phantom Spirit
Motherboard - AMD B650/X670, Intel B760/Z790 (find one with the ports you need at a good price)
RAM - 32GB of DDR4/DDR5, for AMD, DDR5-6000 with the lowest CL you can afford (30 or 32 would be best), for Intel again choose based on your motherboard
SSD - M.2 NVME drive, 1-2TB, Gen 4
GPU - Radeon RX7700XT
PSU - 750W, gold rated
Case - Your choice
Case fans - Depends on the case, some come with enough fans, others need some. Arctic P12s are great for the money.

Do you have an aftermarket cooler paired with your current i7? It might be reusable.
What is your current case? Could be reused if it's a good one.
