Hey All!

I was considering picking up the following notebook:
ASUS M70 Series M70Vn-C1 NoteBook

I've always bought dell but they seem to be less featured and higher priced.

Anyone with experience with this or other asus?
Anyone recommend a different notebook?

Thanks!

Meh, it's a bit expensive for the GPU and the screen isn't 1920 x 1200. But Asus does make good laptops. I will vouch for the Gateway P-7811FX again.

I don't have any experience with Gateway support, build quality, etc...

Is there a comparable ASUS model that would fit the bill?
How about this one?
asus-g71g-a2

Thanks all and keep the advice coming!

EDIT: How about the one mentioned above?

hard to compare the two since one costs $700 more than the gateway. its better, but also more expensive

The sad thing is that the Asus has poorer gaming performance even for $700 more than the Gateway.

The Gateway has a 9800M GTS, not the slower 9800m GS in the Asus. And it costs quite a bit less. For the price of the Asus, you could actually get an Alienware M17 with crossfired ATI HD3870s...

?

I have the P-6831FX, which is essentially the same laptop, but the first "version" of it (slower CPU, less RAM, smaller HDD, 8800M GTS, etc). It's a really great laptop, especially for the price. The newer one listed is a great deal, definitely more so than the Asus.

As for support, I had my HDD go bad on my laptop pretty early on. Gateway was really good about sending me a replacement (no questions asked...it took a while to ship, but that was my only complaint).

So it seems, for gaming that the consensus is that the Gateway is the way to go. Wouldn't the processor in the asus compensate to some extent for the slightly slower GPU?

As for the Alienware recommendation, if they didn't have ATI cards, I'd think about it.

I appreciate all the feedback - please keep it coming.

gaming is largely GPU dependent at moderate to high resolutions. The CPU is playing a pretty small role especially with AA/AF

It's better to have the faster gpu.

Have you considered the 15" Asus G50VT-X2?

ASUS G50VT-X2

Really tempted to jump on this. Too bad I still have an Asus G1-S with a sub-par 8600GT
