New gaming mouse for everyday use (currently using G5)

So, long time since I've posted here!

I'm looking for a new (preferably wired) mouse, since my old Logitech G5 is getting a bit rusty (sides worn down. but still works fantastically). Not a big gamer, but gaming mice have seemed to just work so well (high dpi, lots of nice adjustments), and my last one has lasted forever.

Any recommendations on getting a replacement case/shell/feet (for some reason I can't find any G5 shells on ebay -- just for the G400/G400S/MX518/MX510/MX500)?

Or maybe just "upgrading" to a G500s (on sale for $39.99 this week at BestBuy)? I've heard mixed results about a bug when moving slowly with the G500s, but at $39.99 it seems like a good deal to try and return if it doesn't work that well.

TIA!

The G500s is a replacement for the G500, which was a replacement for the G5v2.

But, it's got a tilt wheel, not a plain old scroll wheel. This can make scrolling the right way sometimes difficult, along with pressing the middle button. If that's not an issue for you, or even a vale-add, then it should be an easy decision.

IIRC, they got most of the movement and acceleration bugs fixed, but the only way to be sure is to try it.

Good to know that the bugs are fixed, thanks! That made my decision easier, and I went ahead and bit the bullet on the G500s.

Just a quick update in case someone else searches for G5 replacement and finds this thread -- tried out the G500s, but ended up returning it to Best Buy. I think because of the new placement of the sensor at the top of the mouse (vs. the middle like the G5), I had some serious wrist pain after about 5 minutes of using it! Very surprising, so that went back. I use my mouse probably 10+ hours a day for work etc..., so that would've been rough.

Alternatively, checked out the bottom of the G400s, and it has a middle-of-the-mouse sensor, and less weight than the G500s too. So I picked up the G400s, and have been using that. It's been great, although it has a way way cheap cord (looks like it'll last less than a year, probably short sighted cost saving measure by Logitech). In addition the G400s grip texture, overall mouse shape, and mouse wheel are all almost identical to my G5 as well. Mouse tilt is missing vs. the G5, but not a huge loss, and a nice transition overall.

So in sum, G5 -> G400s is my suggestion. The G500s and G400s in my opinion are definitely very different mice, beyond just LED vs. Laser optics and adjustable weights in the G500s, and worth checking out both to see what works best.

^^I've actually owned most of the logitech mice and prefer the g500s/g700. I did like the g400s better in terms of aiming, felt a little smoother for that but it didn't have the extra button on the side that the g500 had and it wasn't worth it to me to lose that button. Glad you found your mouse tho, can't go wrong with logtiech.

The G5 was my first gaming mouse. It was ok but I have then switched to Razer and other than Synapse software being meh they have all been great mice. Since then I've had a Diamondback 3G, Deathadder, Naga, and Naga Hex and they all still work. I mostly switch back and forth nowadays between the Naga and Naga Hex though.

if you pick up a G400s, make sure the extra buttons work properly, specially that the (+) button registers all clicks (if you plan to use them).

i wanted to upgrade an old logitech mx510, but had to return three G400s before giving up, maybe a bad batch, but on other forum i got told the g400 had some of this problem too. As i relied on those extra buttons for basic functions, it heavily hampered my workflow.
