New gaming PC

Im interested in buying a new system mainly for gaming, Im not interested in over clocking as i am absolutely clueless about how to go about it. Which of the 2 systems would be better at normal settings, most of my friends believe that AMD is better for gaming, is this true?

The Intel system is better regardless what you do. E8400 > 6400+ and 3GB RAM > 2GB RAM.

Even though it's a little more expensive and has a lower clock speed, I'd go with the intel just for the extra gig of ram. Even though you don't want to overclock, you can if you want later on way past the 3.2 mark. The 6400+ is still a good cpu (I used to have one myself). You can't really go wrong with either one.

Intel's CPUs are faster clock-for-clock right now, which means that even though the E8400 is only clocked at 3.0GHz, it's actually faster than the 3.2GHz AMD chip. 3x1GB is a very odd RAM configuration now that dual-channel is standard. I would still go Intel despite the odd memory layout.

Where are you looking at buying these from?

@Ketherx - depending on where he's buying these from, overclocking may not be an option.

I believe that the layout of Ram is 2 x 1gig and 2 x 512mb (not a 100% sure though) I was told not to bother with the 4th gig as XP is a 32bit system that wont recognise the it.

Thank you all I will go for the Intel system, no doubt you will hear from me in future begging for over clocking help.... but that is a very long way off.

sorry DSF i for got to say, they are from Power Computing web address is www.powerc.com everyone i know has used them and says there after sales service is 100% perfect but hardly never needed.

I tried Dell, who just bored me to death with sales talk and then couldnt tell me who the graphics card manufacturer was..... Dell was also insistent that the extra warranty would be best..... My thoughts are if i need extra warranty then the system is...... use your imagination
