I have an older Kindle Touch and I love it.

But now there is a new gen with better contrast displays and back lighting, such as the Kindle Paperwhite and Kobe Aura/Glo.

I'd like to know whether people can recommend any of them...in particular a comparison of Kindle Paperwhite and Kobe Aura / Glo, the pros and cons... eg which has the best display etc.?

Kope Aura HD looks good seeing that it has a larger display than Kindle PW?

My Kindle for me is the best thing since sliced bread, but now those with the "real white" display and especially the lit displays just seem like the best thing ever given that 99,999% I read in bed in the dark and use a stupid head-light to read The poor contrast of the Kindle always was a minor downside for me.

Also..is it right that the Kindle PW has less memory as compared to the touch? It would be stupid seeing that I would want to copy my books over and they wouldn't fit on the new device? Right now I have about 300 books.

I have a 4th gen Kindle Basic. I bought the Kindle Paperwhite. And I was pretty disappointed with it. Despite the higher resolution the text looked exactly the same to me.

But the real problem was the backlighting. It was really uneven and I found the inconsistent lighting to be a distraction while reading. For $120, I was hoping for something better.

The Paperwhite has 2GB of storage (half of the 4GB of the 4th gen Touch), but that is still plenty of space for books. Amazon says it can hold over 1,100.

I like the paper white, but the back light is a need for me. I was a nook user for years but jumped to kindle and I find I like it better.

I have the paperwhite - it's awesome. The backlight aside, the quality of the screen is just so much better than the previous generations. I highly recommend it.

I traded up from a Kindle gen3 to the Paperwhite.

I like the higher resolution and backlighting. Worth it if you read a lot.

I got my wife a Paperwhite and set it up for her. She's an avid reader. The deals on Amazon Prime are very good. I have a Kindle Fire HD 8.9-in arriving today.

The backlight for the Paperwhite is very adjustable. I find no problem with it.

Are you looking for just a bare bones reader? If not, go read this thread: http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2318075

The Nook HD and HD + are a killer deal right now. I just picked up a Nook HD + for the wife and she loves it....

I bought a Nook HD+ for $179 during a mother's day sale (sorry mom) and think it's terrific. Great video playback for the price, and very good eReading capabilities. I read a lot of computer books on PDF and wish the screen were closer to the iPad's size, but you can't have everything.

The Nook HD+ is now $149, which makes it an even better deal.

The good thing about the Nexus 7 is that it seems like everyone has discounts on it right now. The bad thing is we are expecting a much better Nexus 7 to arrive almost any week now.

The wife has read 4 books on it so far and has no complaints. She has terrible vision, too. The Nook HD+ is first and foremost an e-reader, with tablet qualities built in.

I'm of the opinion that eye strain comes more from focusing on any plane for too long, but that's just my eyes I guess. My eyes will feel tired staring at anything for too long, even real paper. I like e-readers for battery life and weight, and don't personally feel an eye strain difference.

eInk vs. LCD is very much a personal preference. Some folks aren't bothered by a LCD while other folks won't read on anything else. Go check them both out at a Best Buy.

For me, I like the look of eInk over LCD (along with much better battery life and portability) so I went for a Kindle. Had a K4 and upgraded to a Paperwhite. The higher resolution of the PW is a major improvement over the older Kindles.
