New generation of Graphics cards (G80 etc.) - when?

I am already planning the build of my next computer, but it is a while before it will be time to upgrade yet. Basically I would like to wait until the next generation of cards from Nvidia and ATI hits the streets, but so far it has been very quiet about these.

When can we expect to see them? do you have a qualified guesstimate?

You are getting tired of people asking when it is likely the next generation of hardware will be available?
I am sorry, but since I have to plan long before I buy, in order to have a suitable budget, I need to have at least estimates on which to base my planning.

Guess if I am tired of people whining on forums about people posting questions.
If you do not know the answer or have a qualified guess, then dont answer.

I find these forums hide away people that generally have at least some insight into the release schedules of hardware manufacturers, so obviously my question were directed in general to those people. Usually asking here is a gold mine for imformation for us that are not in the loop all the time about hardware releases.

Every now and then there is a "when is G80 coming out?" thread, just search before and you'll see all of them.

A suitable budget for latest and greatest hardware will be around $1500-$2000 for the forseeable future. You don't really need to start planning since nobody really knows what or when the DX10 cards will be out.

If you do a search for G80 you will find a ton of posts, and they all say around September and other than that we don't know sh!t.

Obviously it is a question people wants answers too.
If you think it is such a problem that the question keeps on being asked, then make a sticky about it in the forum. That way it will not be much of an issue in the future.

There's no way in heck that question will get a sticky. There have been numerous threads that provide good help or good questions but they never get stickied. The only one that is is xtknights and for a good reason. I guess my point is don't expect a mod to do anything in video besides maybe give someone a vacation or lock a thread, other than that the mods really don't do anything in video.

If we where on a forum with a working search function we could tell you to use that and you would see just how many questions we get asked about the new GPU's, but we can't do that either because search has been broken for a while now.

When are you plaining to build your new rig? There are a few things we have heard about the up coming video cards. The G80 is nvidia's and it looks good with 32pixel pipes, but they aren't unified like ATI's R600 and they are rumored to be putting in 64 unified shaders. As for clock speeds or mem: GPU's should get a speed bump but don't expect much maybe 700mhz for them. Mem should be GDDR4 as ATI has been messing around with that. I wouldn't be supprised to see mem go up to 1800 or 2000mhz.

The timing or your build will kinda be the deciding factor. G80 is due out pretty soon like in the next month or two. ATI's R600 is rumored to be out around Q4 of '06 or Q1 of '07(basicly December or January). The money you will be spending will probably go to a powerfull PSU and one of these cards. The rumors have said that they are power hungry 300watts just to them selfs.

Anyway that is about what I can tell you hope it helps.

FFS people dont all think up the same question at the same time, so they wont all see the one thread with that question in it, till go off the page so they will ask again. Theres usually somone who hasent answered the question before or somone whos always willing to help, even if its the 10th time theyve done so on the same subject. Noone needs to see your use the search button trash. If your gonna tell somone to use the search, answer their question then politely point out the search function. I've commented on this in other forums but it's not so much people asking questions that bother me. It's the general laziness of the "me" generation. They're so lazy to learn to search for their information, which in many cases only takes a few minutes, that they spend hours waiting for the same info. In the case of something like the release dates of the G80 and R600, if it was something known, it'd definitely be available on a google search. Now, I'll admit AT's search functions suck and many times I'll be looking for a thread with some keywords I know exhists but can't find it but in the case of the "when is the g80/r600 coming out" threads, it's easily found. Seriously, use your frickin brains people and stop being lazy bums.
