New Godzilla 2014 trailer

I saw it in 2D. Found it really boring and kind of stupid. I liked Godzilla the actual creature and enjoyed Elizabeth Olsen of course, but the lead kid was terrible, and the rest of the movie was just very stupid, blah, and uninteresting.

Having 'human drama' was not the problem. (Heck, I love dramatic movies.) It's just that the acting and script were so bad that it sank the movie for me, despite the spectacular appearances of Gz. I was quite disgruntled by the end of the movie, and I can't believe the praise given to the director.

There were also too many cliches. For example

The scene where the protagonist shoots his handgun in a futile gesture against the MUTO, and was saved by Gz.

Ripped from Saving Private Ryan: Wounded Tom Hanks shoots his pistol at the advancing tank. The tank explodes - It was blown up by the miraculous appearance of P-51s.

Parting shot: Pacific Rim is more enjoyable than Godzilla.

Disagree about the acting... a lot of it was really bad. I liked Cranston, and I guess Ford + his wife were fine, but Ken Wantanabe as the scientist/doctor and most of the military folks around him were abysmal. There was one part where I physically cringed because the delivery was so bad. The thing is I know he's a good actor, I've seen it. It almost seemed like he was over-acting on purpose to get the old B-monster-movie vibe, but nobody else got the memo so he just seemed really out of place. I just don't understand what he was doing, and why nobody else acted the same way.




This, very much this. A lot of fluff and bullshit that wasn't well acted enough to spend that much time with it. The monster encounters were all pretty badass though, so it was worth seeing in the theaters once. Probably won't see it again though.

I get so annoyed when I read amateur stuff like this. It is a MONSTER movie, for a MONSTER movie the acting was good, very good actually. It is a MONSTER movie, not broadway, nitwit. For bleep sake, judge a movie within context.

Lets not be silly. But to take some angle like you go to a Godzilla movie, looking to see The Godfather, A Few Good Men, Shawshank Redemption, or Private Ryan is just asinine.

no one said they expected the movie to win awards for acting, just that the acting was piss poor in parts, and it was.

The poor acting/characters would have been fine if they had made the movie more fun. If you are going to have a monster movie and make it so damn earnest, then you need to have characters/actors to support that; unfortunately Godzilla did not do this.

Looking at Pacific Rim, that was a goofy balls-out monster flick and the bad acting worked fine in it because of that tone. Godzilla seems to be attempting some real emotional stuff and if you are going to attempt that, you really need better writing and acting to make it work. Edwards pulled this off to a slightly better degree with his first film Monsters.

I'm not expecting the best performances ever (and I actually think Cranston and Olsen were decent) but at least give them something to work with.

Honestly though the biggest fault of the film is it was just so damn boring.
