Damn looks cool. Can I borrow some of your ram? There's a sale at compusa for a 12x10x32 Iomega CDRW for $99 and I think it's a just a rebadged plextor.

WOW that amount of ram is going to pack a punch and a half! Remember the bottleneck! Some of the ram might get wasted cause of the bottleneck! I would go for slightly less! Somewhere around the 384 would be way enough. Unless if youa re going to use some MEM Hungy apps! Like photoshop or something like that. Games don't take too much as the AGP handles that, and what Graphics card you going to get? That is also important, but apart from that everything is OK, and go for an ASUS DVD-Rom drive if you can! They rock! I got a chipped one from Hong Kong and it is rocking! And go with what Forever Silky said! The Iomega is just a Plextor underneath!

Good Luck,

SKY.

Neither KT7 or A7V is a match for MSI K7T Pro2A. Is it just me? Or does everyone recommend the mobo in their sig?

The K7T-Pro 2 is very stable, performs well and isn't as expensive as the A7V. But if you intend to run 8 hard drives off your motherboard, the A7V could be the better choice

Since you aren't building it immediately there might be some KT133A boards on the market by then. The Asus A7V is a good board, hopefully Asus can swap Northbridge chips by then (assuming the rest of the circuitry can handle 133 DDR FSB). It shouldn't take them long.

Also, what features of the AIW are you needing? I know some people here are ATI fans so I can understand them going for the Radeon instead of the GTS/GTS Pro/GTS Ultra. The AIW is a slightly crippled version of the Radeon and doesn't perform that great and the GeForce GTS Pro isn't that much more expensive (may be the same price by the time you get your system).

Also, as far as WCPUID you should be able to find it at www.h-oda.com.

Hey sassy... Your new soon-to-be system looks good...but...

Change the motherboard to an MSI K7T Pro 2A... read up on it... I'm sure you'll decide to get it after reading a few of the posts on these forums & reviews.... (unless u r a loyal asus fan)

and about the HDD... there are *NO* 10k rpm IDE Drives out yet. The One you are reffering to is an SCSI HDD, meaning you'll need and SCSI controller...

To me, that powersupply looks abit of an over-kill... a 300W PSU would do...

Other than that.... it looks good

I agree with AMB about making sure to get CAS2 PC133. It is one of those things that is obvious to me but wasn't in your spec so it should be. It is up to you whether you want to spend the extra cash for one of the top three Mushkin, Crucial, or Corsair or go generic CAS2. The top 3 generally seem to overclock better than generic of course. I haven't seen any good benchmarks to claim one over another and almost everyone in this forum seems to have personal opinions on one or another. I would go with whichever can be found cheapest.

Well the MOBO forum should have plenty on it, but I don't go there very often so I won't know. But I am an ASUS fan and maybe Gigabyte sometimes, but not always. The reason for me being ASUS fan: ASUS Mobo, ASUS DVD-Rom, ASUS CD-RW, and soon to get ASUS A7V and ASUS V7700 AGP card!

Yeah, I originally took your word for it that Seagate just came out with a 10K IDE drive. If they have one it is not on the shelves or on their website. The fastest IDE drives they have are ATA/66, 7200RPM, 8.2ms.

The fastest IDE drive I am aware of is the IBM Deskstar 75GXP with 2MB buffer. It is ATA/100, 7200 RPM, and 8.5ms and has a sustained transfer rate of 37MB/s.

I would stick with the 400W power supply if you are building a top of the line system. It is a little overkill, but you might as well have too much power than not enough. If you find a case you like that comes with a 300W power supply though, I would stick with it. Have you thought about brands and models for case and power supply?

Or why not find a power supply which is in the middle! A 350Watt PSU! There are some of those flying around! I know where to get them in the U.K but not the US so don't ask!

If you already have SCSI, it doesnt make any sense to waste the money on the extra controller on the A7V.

www.h-oda.com is the official site and took a little while for me just now, but seems to work just fine if just a wee bit slow. If that site doesn't work for you I'm sure you know how to use search engines. A search for wcpuid should turn up tons of hits of mirrors. The latest version is 2.8c-B5.
