I thought hp printers have the nozzles on the ink cartridges.. making them more expensive but makes it easier if your print head thing dies

bjball: The difference between the 932c and P1000 are numerous. For starters the P1000 series (P1000, P1100, P1215, P1218) accept CompactFlash and SmartMedia cards so you can print pictures from digital cameras directly without the need for a PC. (You can change the picture size, paper type, and index printing all from the printer itself).
In addition, the P1000 has a 4x6 photo paper tray so you can print directly to 4x6 sized photo paper (JetPrint makes this, HP makes this paper as well, it sells for $8.49 for 20 sheets at OfficeMax).
The P1000 also prints faster, and has a higher duty cycle (the 932c is rated for 2,000 sheets monthly whereas the P1000 can handle 3,000 I think).
If I am not mistaken the 932 has 2 things going in its favor over the P1000:
1. It has the fold-up tray (some consider this a BAD thing though).
2. It uses the 78 Color cart and not the 23 Color Cart. I am not 100% sure on this, but I think the P1000 uses the 23 Color Cart.

I hope this helps out. I think this printer is the best "bang for the buck" (although the 952C is tempting for $50 more). At $130ish I would highly recommend this printer to anyone out there looking for a decent printer.

By the way (sorry for the never-ending post), the person who posted a link to Ink Pool (Printer Refill Kits) needs to keep in mind that they did not have a #78 Color Cartridege (that I could find anyway). I did see the #45 Black cart. Also, refill kits will void your warranty with HP. Keep that in mind !

Have a good day,
ChunkyBarf

I'm sorry, but can someone tell me how to pricematch, or point me somewhere that tells you how. Thank you.

BigAl,
I hear ya. I've grown to hate this Epson. I might just get the satisfation of destroying it with a sledgehammer and save some unsuspecting consumer from going through the same pain as we have.

b00mer, here is your crash course in pricematching.

Call Staples, tell them you want to pricematch and they'll ask which store. You provide them the store, they'll look it up, and adjust your price accordingly. It's really easy but some CSRs won't let you use the coupon after pricematching so you have to call back and try it with another CSR.

[EDIT] Since this is at Staples B&M, cross out the whole notion of calling and talking to a CSR.

I personally don't think HP printers are as good as Epson for realistic color prints. I just bought an Epson 880 for the office and home use. The color is hands down better than any HP. Compare for yourselves at the stores. I've never had a problem with my 880's but they may have probs with the printheads clogging. I don't know if this is true. HP's have a lot of aligntment probs and inks are way too expensive. $40 a cartridge? You've got to be kidding me. Anyway, read the reviews and check out the print samples or you might be disappointed...You can get the 880 for about $130.

Epson do have problem with the printheads clogging. And it costs $80 for tech person to fix. That is why I use HP now. The printhead is on the ink cartridge. Every time you change cartridge you get NEW head. The HP cartridge do cost tons of $ but you can use refill kit to save $. Just don't let HP know....

The 900 series HP printers automatically align themselves each time you take out a cartridge and put a new on in. When you put it in, close the cover and look under neath at the printhead and you will see a Blue light sensor that aligns them. I think HP is more durable then Epson and lasts longer. If the print head clogs, that is $80 plus $130 you spent on the printer. Just put the $200 (or $130 in this case) and buy a reliable printer.

ChunkyBarf (that is such a disgusting name! lol):

The duplexer does work on the 930C series of printers. I have tried it myself.

Also, not to be mean or to cause any harm, but has any1 else noticed that the people that are complaining about the 932C got it from the E-Stamp or whatever it was deal? Just an observation:Q

Dogget:
The basic difference between the 932c and 952c is paper handling. The 932c has the "fold-up" paper tray. It is "convenient" to some who are really cramped on space. The 952c has the built 4x6 photo paper tray so you can print directly to the 4x6 photo paper (available from a few different vendors). The 952c is also a hair quicker (around 3-10 seconds per page faster in real-world tests, so not a whole lot really). See my note below for the one other "difference" I was aware of.

JagGrey:
I was told earlier that the 932c would not accept the duplexer, but I am wrong. I just checked HP Shopping and they do indeed say that the 930/932c will accept the duplexer. I apoligize to anyone if this misinformation caused harm. Here is the description and part # from the above link.

hp two-sided printing accessory C6463A-ABA $79.00

I hope this helps. If I am not mistaken officemax will have this on sale next week (I read someone's post here saying something to that effect). If so I will buy it there (with a coupon) since I do not have a Staples in my area.

Hope this helps,
ChunkyBarf

It might be too late for some. But OD is changing the price back tomorrow. It looks like it was a mistake in their computers. I was told the price is going up tomorrow.

I have a 932C and am very happy with it.

I also found that you have to feed envelopes
in one at a time or else it will jam...

Hehe, I just jumped on the $99.98 HP DeskJet 895Cse deal at Staples today. From what I've read online, the 895 is generally better than the 93x except when it comes to color photos. The speed of this thing is incredible! I haven't really put it to any tests yet, but from what I've observed printing web pages this printer is FAST!

Edit: stupid junior member (who just achieved member status!) forgot to ask his question! Does anyone know the difference in ink costs/cost-per-page of the 895 vs. 93x and 95x/97x??

I see u guys keep comparing HP and Epson, whatever happen to Lexmark. I bought the HP 895cse, took it home, went on cnet to do some research on it. They rate the lexmark a 7 (7 outta 10) and the HP 895cse only got a 6. So I took the HP back to change it for the lexmark. The lexmark z52 is also on sale. The price on the lexmark is 109.99 plus tax. Lexmark has 2400x1200dpi as to HP895cse 1200x1200dpi. You do the math...

HK,
I know the numbers favor Lexmark and Epson on certain printers but that doesn't make the printer. HP printers are the best quality. My Epson 740 is a pile of junk. Throw those numbers out the window. They are only good for pcmag reviews.

I agree with bckey. My old printer was a POS Epson Stylus 600 color. Its rated at 1440 dpi (or 720x1440) but any moron with 20/60 vision or better can see that any HP 8xx series printer or higher has sharper output/crisper text, even though the HPs were only rated for 600dpi! I've seen this with scanners to some extent to; high quality 600dpi scanners have sharper graphics and less cross-hatching compared to a stock 1200dpi unit (before retouching.)

Hmmm...interesting. So what do you guys think, should I return the Lexmark Z52 and get the HP 895CSE instead?

I went a bit higher and bought the HP 952C on the phone...

I told the CSR to pricematch officedepot and after 5 mins on hold he came back and told me the price was $199.99

I then told him I had a coupon, he came back 2 minutes later and told me the price was now $183.xx with Tax.

My mother just bought the HP 932C for $199 plus tax about 3 or 4 weeks ago so I called her up and started bragging I got the higher model for $20 cheaper...

Price went back up. But according to someone else's post, the printer is supposed to be $149.99 at OfficeMax on 2/25.

All this talk about printer resolutions has overlooked some basic information about the HP 932C/952C. While HP's basic output is 600dpi x 600dpi, it is capable of outputting 4 different colors in each "dot", essentially giving you 1200 X 1200. Starting with the 932 and higher, you can now "turn off" the PhotoRet color dithering and get a raw 1200dpi x 1200dpi output when using photo paper. I have a 932C and it produces mind-blowing photos. For this price, the Epsons can't compare.
