perhaps..but not for the huge price they charge on those blank media
~$0.70 per disc isn't much more than normal

How about at least 50% more? The 8X Verbatims at Newegg are 21.99 (-R) and 23.99 (+R) for a 50 pack. 0.44 and 0.46 respectively.
At Microcenter, the 8X Verbatims are 18.99 for 50 pack for -R Verbatim and +R Verbatim. 0.38/disk.

Nope, waste of time.

You have to use the best setting or it looks too light and the best setting takes 30+ minutes to burn a full label.

So be patient, or set it to scribe the label when you go do something else (assuming you do leave your computer sometime during the day).

I think the light scribe is worth the price since it looks really nice and although it takes 30min you will not notice it while you surf the web. Again they look great, just like professional cd's if you have the right template.

Exactly... I've never seen a "professional" CD that looks anything like a lightscribed disc...

Lightscribe is a very cool idea, but I don't think the technology is quite there yet. 30 minutes to produce a nice looking cd label is a little long. I could see using it to burn labels for things like family pictures and movies cd's and dvd's but I wouldn't use it to quick burn some music to a disc to listen to in your car. Most of the time I'm burning discs and I want them done quick. I don't like to sit around for half an hour waiting for things to finish. But that's just me. Once they get the time down to maybe 10 minutes or so, then we'll be talkin!
Good find though! Looks like a nice deal on a lightscribe burner!

I received mine a few days ago. I don't think it's a LiteOn, but a Benq instead. It's recognized as a 640c with ES04 firmware.

I also thought it was made by Benq.

They claim it is a liteon right there on the page. It looks like my lite on and sony (made by liteon)
Bait and switch maybe? Does the front look just as it does in the picture? If it is a liteon then it should be a short rom then no? Is it?
I think if what you got was not a HP/Liteon I would throw a fit and I will remove this thread upon your findings.

I'm not finding the drive on their website anymore. If I remember correctly, the picture on the website had a logo on the left side of the tray. The one I received does not. All logos are from the center of the tray and to the right. The drive itself is the same depth as my NEC 3540.
