New HTPC Build: Passive Cooling Only?!

Been through the passive CPU cooling game for giggles before. I'm guessing noise is your concern. . . just bear in mind that a fan running as slow as it possibly can will make things many many times cooler than just a passive heatsink. The slightest air movement makes all the difference. Then again I was trying to make a passive gaming machine which is a different proposition. http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=295856

Would echo what others are saying about the new AMD Brazos/Bobcat/whatever we're calling them today. Low low power and should be enough for what you need. I did get my AMD 1090 under clocked and under volted to run fanless for a few hours to prove I could do it. Granted I did not run Intel burn in test or Prime 95 while doing it. I tried it in Sept. I live in the North East of USA.

I just unplugged all my fans and let me new (then) huge Xigatech heatsink do the work. I cannot remember the temps off hand but I do remember spending hours going to the lowest possible stable volt using Intel burn in test. Then I simply removed/unplugged all the fans in the PC. My OCZ power supply was the only fan I did not turn off.
