should i go with the wireless kb and wireless mighty mouse?

i know the wireless kb is much smaller then the wired but i really dont like cables all over the place. i never used the wireless mouse before only the wired in the store.

edit: ah i just decided to go with the wired solution. if it bothers me then ill just pick up the wireless combo at a later date.

I went with this config

iMac, 24-inch, 3.06GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Part Number: Z0FH
Apple Keyboard (English) + User's Guide
Apple Mighty Mouse
Accessory kit
2GB 800MHz DDR2 SDRAM - 2x1GB
3.06GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GS w/512MB GDDR3

newegg, or wherever.

as for the wireless keyboard, it's nice, but I personally can't stand the loss of the number pad. If that's not an issue go for it. I personally hate the mighty mouse though. nice concept, but it's not comfortable, and click detection is iffy, and the scroll ball dies too easily (we had two that failed a direction w/in a couple of months).

Nice purchase, I'm peeved that my imac is so slow now compared to it... haha. mainly just want the 24" and nvidia card for aperture.

The wireless KB & Mouse really annoyed me because they eat through batteries like candy. Even with a spare set of rechargables it was annoying to have them go dead that often.

I found that the old one did, but the newer aluminum one seems to be better for me. I can usually go 4 months before they die with daily usage.

I would advise against that. If you have a problem and call Apple Support, they will ask you if you have third party memory and if you do, they may try to blame the problem on the RAM. Keep the Apple sticks handy in case you have an issue that requires Apple service, you can put the stock RAM back in and avoid that potential hassle.

Other World Computing had 2x2GB sticks for the iMac for about $90 last time I checked. The memory has a lifetime warranty. I bought 4GB from them for my MacBook and have had no problems.

I have also bought memory from TransItnl for a Mac Pro which is working fine as well.

Thanks for the advice. I think I am going to hold off with the upgrade for now. Seems as though with this update apple has chosen to go with faster DDR800 rather then the DDR667 they were using.

I'll play around with the iMac and see if I need or will benefit from an upgrade to 4gb and hopefully by then more DDR800 chips will be out and even cheaper!

Depending on the work that you do, you probably won't need more than 2 GB of RAM. If you do video/graphic work, you will need as much as you can get, which if that's the case you'd want to grab a MacPro anyway. But if you're using it for about anything else... 2 GB should be perfectly fine.

Finally!!!! I've been waiting for this update since Feb. Question.....

Is the Geforce 8800 worth the extra $141? Why?
Just not sure what it really buys you over the ATI.

Also, noticed another price cut for the now "older model" refurbished IMACs.
24" 2.4 - $1399
24" 2.8 extreme - $1599

Not a bad deal for those.....

Excellent advice from KeithP on the original RAM.

People are saying this is the Montevina update? I'm not up on Intel road map since I'm not upgrading anytime soon. ;(

The GPU upgrade is worth it because you can't do it later.

Edit:
Not the forthcoming Montevina platform, but some unlisted Penryn CPUs.

Don't get the lower GPU! It has been long in the tooth for a while now. Get the upgraded Nividia. Get the 24", as it is an SIPS panel. The 20" is a TN.

whatever you do, be absolutely sure that you get the 8800GS upgrade. no reason not to, and the 8800 will demolish the ati.

Why no quad processor? You can get 2.6ghz, quad core chips in a $600 gateway mini tower. So price seemingly isn't a factor.

There's no excuse not to put them in the iMac.

Bummer.

Well, the iMac is like 2" thick and has an LCD panel there too which adds to the heat production of the system.

Price isn't an issue, engineering and thermodynamics are however.

No GPU update except in the high end model. And the 8800 GTS Mobile is far from great on a 24" display. Apple is about to lose the occasional gamer crowd too.

I'm looking forward to Quad-core iMacs. Also, memory manufacturers need to get on the ball and start putting out 4gb sodimm sticks. The rest of us need 8gb ram in our laptops

It's a small step in the right direction compared to the previous imac offering. If they had this when I had the money to buy a mac a few months back I would of bought one. Instead I used the money elsewhere.

An 8800M GTX would have been perfect.

There's some speculation that the new iMacs in fact run on a proto-Montevina chipset, which helps explain the 1066 MHz bus and 3.06 GHz cpu. Intel describes it merely as a 'special' Santa Rosa. So Apple is offering overclocked Intel kit now? Hoohah!
