I'm not sure what you are saying about hair means anything or even accurate. Everyone in the 80s was donning long ass hair with curls including the US. Those rock band guys were certainly perceived as men. I don't think any one thought Bon Jovi was feminized. They might have been more pop than heavy metal, but they come off as guys.It may be a cisdemeanor to say this but if you remember the music and fashion from the mid to late 80s coming out of Europe it seemed to push the feminization of men. It was okay to act different, dress in pastel pants and shirts and have long hair. Girls like it and some boys too. You did not have to come out of the closet but you could stick your toe out and see who notices.
But these days we have to make unnecessary drama over everything including any sort of label. Lets redefine terms!
