From what I understand the open beta is f2p. Just make a account and on the next page when it asks to pay you just close the tab. Seems paid members just get automatic access to login page while f2p players are stuck in queue during heavy traffic?
Sweet, I've been waiting for this since Darkfall failed me.
Before I try I'd like to ask one of the guinea pigs since you have to buy the game before playing the open beta:
-how does leveling work?
-how do you get gold?
-how do you make/collect armor & weapons?
-how does the town system work?
-is there territorial control for clans?
-can a city/town/hut be set up anywhere?
-what is the grind like?
Game sounds good but first person view only? No bueno.
Trying to get into the game now. When I get it working I'll report my progress.

When you die the penalty is you drop everything you're wearing and in your inventory.
Oh and this patch is fuckin slow! It's only moved like 2% in the past 5 hrs.
A little idea, download the patch with a torrent download program (I use utorrent), the torrent can be found in C: \Program Files\Star Vault\Mortal Online\patches (right click, open with). Now to find what folder to put it in so the launcher finds it, I think it's the main MO folder. -edit- I think it's C: \Program Files\Star Vault\Mortal Online\mortalonline -edit-
The current launcher is rubbish, lucky if I get 30kb/s and it does not save your progress if you exit (as it'll take a few days to download using the launcher).

No, you can respawn, but whatever gear you had on you at the time is gone (unless you can get back to your corpse and recover it before someone else).
This is what makes crafting so important - people will likely have stashes of equipment at their houses.
Also - this is a "kill anyone, anytime" type game. There ARE penalties, though. For instance, if you murder 5 innocents within a certain time period, you are labeled as a murderer and will be attacked on-site by guards at any city. You can also be attacked by any other player, and they will not incur penalty.

Yup the administrator was part of the issue but I was only getting 20kbs connection. Anyone else who has this problem you need to forward port 1108, after that I had 150 connections with a 2mb total speed.
