Seems they are working on the lag issue.

For the rest of today it appears they disabled the mobs/AI which has had a drastic effect on the lag, in a good way. It is still there in spikes and after a few hours of gameplay, but it's being worked on. I'd expect to see another patch in a week that will reduce lag.

Played for several hours last night. There was zero lag from what I saw, and I spent most of my time in Meduli (high pop city).

I'm really hoping that the next patch fixes a myriad of issues. The game is very broken in many ways, but none of the issues can't be fixed, and I'm confident that most of it will be patched prior to release.

My biggest gripe, other than lag/performance, is the way skills are learned. If you don't know a skill, you need to go buy a book most of the time, and sometimes it means buying several books. Grinding is bad enough, don't make me spend 2 hours searching the fucking planet for random books.

Broken game aside, I'm having tons of fun. Can't believe how much fun I'm having in a game that isn't finished. Reallllllllly excited for release... I'm gonna get the most pimp house ever!

I just can't get immersed in a game that doesn't let me see myself.

Additionally, not being able to walk around while a window is open is kind of lame.

They have some decent ideas, but first-person-only is going to kill it.

Completely disagree.

First person is MUCH more immersive IMO... it keeps a real perspective on the world around you.

Chat window is always open... bottom left...

They have updated the servers (their side of things) with regards to the mob AI and the lag is VASTLY reduced. Still lags a bit in town but since you're in town it doesn't matter much. In the wilds is very good.

I really like the crafting system (now that I can use it) with a huge variety of options on how to make your items.

Also note that atm mining ore in town is the easiest way to get gold, to the point it's broken the economy (devs increased the yield by x10). Use of macros is also tolerated during the beta to accelerate crafting for testing purposes.

Press Z when you open a window to exit out of "mouse mode" and leave the window open.

Well that sucked. Someone off'd me while I was quietly attempting to harvest wood, knocked me into the river and the only way out was to jump off the water fall. Kinda fun when you're dead to fall a thousand feet. Anyway, no priest nearby so I asked to be brought to one. Except the shrine I was brought to mysteriously had no priest, so I had to walk about 10 miles to another one off in the distance. Found some buffalo on my pilgrimage though!

Unless you want to harvest wood for the hell of it, stick with ore in town. See if you can find a wood vendor and buy what you need using the gold you got for the ore. After release it won't be like this, for now they want to get people crafting as fast a possible to test everything out. If you don't have the mining skill it can be found at the basic vendor.

Also note that you can fall from a GREAT high into water deep enough to swim in and not die.

How do you ask to be brought to a priest?

Might as well list some useful resources I found online while I'm here.

Another map
http://img31.imageshack.us/img31/2787/audacianmapnew.jpg

That is the absolute best map there is. I found it the other day then lost it and had to spend an hour looking for horses in between Fabernum and Meduli last night hehe.

Ok, so my absolute favorite thing about this game so far? Everyone is SO courteous compared to other games. I have talked with between 10-15 people in game and literally every single one has responded and been engaged.

Its weird. In most MMO's you will try to talk to someone and they either don't notice, or just don't care to respond. I have not been ignored a single time in this game. People are kind enough to actually SHOW me where things are. It may just be that we are in open beta, but I don't think so.

Last night I escorted a guy from Meduli to Fabernum and we talked for like 20 minutes. Good times.

Press 'P', this opens a inventory menu for you. At the bottom is 'beta suicide', after you die that changes to 'bring to shrine'. Costs you somethings to do this though, but kinda nice if you get suck as well.

<snip>.

Thieves prevent anyone from going AFK around other players. With the exception of macro harvesters everyone is active, as stealing from them currently is pointless.

Griefers also have a outlet in thieving. Best ways to avoid having items stolen is to have heavy stacks of items, don't go AFK, try to have your back to a object so you see anyone coming up to you or stand so you can see your shadow and anyone else who comes up to you, use the A/D keys to strafe when in window mode to disrupt a theft.

Press TAB to target a thief, when he goes gray (top right shield icon) you can either kill him or enter "Guards" into chat (enter) to have him wtfpwned. You can also click on hold the right mouse button then press the left to push someone who might be blocking you.

From Henrik, CEO:
Dear community,

As you know we have been working on fixing the lag we have been experiencing during the latest open beta phase. We've successfully pinpointed the main reasons for his and are currently solving them as fast as we can.

We have also had some problems with our patcher, both in the terms of a huge amount of new players trying to connect to the game, and that we had too few servers hosting the data. We have now updated this and it should work a lot better now. As already announced the (by now) outdated client on the Mortal Online DVDs will now properly update itself.

We will have a small patch on Monday 15th of February, containing a combat overhaul which will improve the overall feeling and flow of the combat. This includes updated hit boxes, real weapon arcs (to hit your target more accurately not relying on where your “crosshair” is but where the actual blade is), some bug fixes and some small features. We are looking forward to hearing your response on these important changes.

On 22th of February we will release a huge content patch including even more combat changes, changes to the magic system, new weapons, obviously new content as in new areas, pickables/resources, npcs and mobs, new player buildings and some other stuff you may find very interesting.

We are looking forward to release these patches as they affect the core of the combat in the game and we think the result is very good so far. This is of course something we will continuously improve and polish since it’s an important factor of the game.

So.. Well i just started up my character a lil while ago. No idea which town to pick since there is no description of any sort. But i end up in a forest, so i found a large town nearby except it is void of any person whatsoever, not even an NPC.

I also think i'm up on a mountain somewhere. No idea where to go or what to do.

Anyone got some pointers? Right now i'm just chillin in a ghost town.

EDIT:

I must totally be missing some things.. Its an absolutely dead world. I just scaled down a mountain and found another MASSIVE town, but the gates are locked and wouldnt even let me in. Havent seen another player and not a single mob. Plus i do not have a single item whatsoever.

In the past there have been bizarre login bugs where it makes it look like you logged in and can run around the world but you're actually not connected to the server so you will not see any players, mobs, npcs, items, anything.

You are in the NW, head west till you hit the coast and head south till you hit another -populated- city. From there you can find yourself on the map and head off. The further south you go the more green the landscape becomes.

The first place you started at was in fact about 2 minutes away from one of the more active towns, but it's probably best you missed it as it causes some people to crash when entering.

That "MASSIVE town" you found is indeed dead, as the gates are locked and no one is able to get in without hacking.

Also note that some towns lag more then others. Go on IRC if you have lag or crashing issues.

I once saw a animation of an female player loading that was half white and blue, alternating the colors on the but cheeks.

That happened to me when I accidentally attempted to tame someone else's horse. It was kind of like being pummeled by an entire football team. One minute I was standing there, next minute on the ground like: . Course, with 400 damage I was dead, so I decided to jump off the cliff and try to hit the river. That didn't work, but hey you can't die twice :awe:

edit: how do I go around without clothes? I've noticed a few others doing that.

I wish this game had a map I could bring up, as I have no idea where I am. I'm wandering around in the middle of nowhere basically. I did recently find a 'fortress' of sorts, basically a bunch of big wooden poles stuck in the ground with some houses inside and a well in the middle. Wandered a bit more and found the end of the map, but wasn't curious enough to see what happens if you fall off.

And here's my big question, how do I get skills to go into the 'hotbar'? I've tried dragging them up to a number, but it never does anything. This is rather frustrating as to simply chop wood I have to enter combat mode, enter mouse mode, and then navigate to the skill I want and then use it that way. Takes forever!

I had posted a list of links back a few posts.

For the hot bar, press L and drag the icon to the hotbar. If it does not work check the lag by drawing your weapon and try again when there is no lag. If that still does not work report it as a bug.

how do you make the mouse appear when you are walking to use the hot bar. Also you do have to be patient with the hotbar it takes 30 seconds or so for the icon to appear.
