I wonder what overclocking may be like. Full range of 64-bit processors now from Intel, and Celerons will soon have 64-bit too.

Any ideas when AMD are doing budget 64's?

Umm... AMD is doing 'budget 64' now.

$109-$112 for a s754 2800+
$139 for a s754 3000+
$145 for a s939 3000+
More sub-$150 mobile/DTR A64s

All less than the $163 up there.

Obviously their budget line is the Sempron line, which is not 64 bit, and I don't think they've announced when it will be.
Hence the comment.
Whether or not their processor costs are cheaper than Intel doesn't really effec whether their budget line is 64-bit or not. The 2.26 GHz Celeron D (crap, I know) is only $72, and if they make it 64-bit, that would be budget to me.
Budget as in cheap (Sempron) like, not AMD 64, as I'm sure you well understood.
This also relates to the release of a budget line of processors maybe on socket 939.

64bit is not that great given that not all hardware have drivers for the OS.

Also just to let you guys know the words were "well below 163US" not 163US exactly, that spot will be held by the Pentium 4 521 2.8GHZ/800FSB when it is released according to rumors this June or something.

The Pentium 4 506 though is directed at OEM mostly so it's is unknown what the official price on the chip is. They don't sell these through the retial channels, and you can't find a price for these on Intel's pricing page.

a budget Intel system performs at about 55% of its true capacity.

Why? Memory. Budget parts normaly are paired with UMA, or integrated graphics, in other words, and usually use cheap RAM @ 266; Since AXP/Smp/A64 are not *that* memory bandwith starved as Cel/P4, they perform much better under similar circumstances.

From my personal labs. Unfortunately, you do not see many reviews on budget/integrated motherboards in a cheap configuration on the net. I have run stuff like SuperPi, PC Mark, and 3D Mark using very similar chipsets for both cases; i.e.: Athlon XP with SiS 741GX and P4 with SiS 651FX;
