I let the noobs work out all the Peryn bugs. If I can't get my hands on a 9x Peryn quad under $180 in 2008, then I'll wait for the next cycle.
The older CPUs get phased out. You may be able to find them at various retailers however, but I believe the price savings wouldn't be too much.Originally posted by: ChaoZ
What about pricing on older CPUs?
YEAH! I'm with you! If I can't get a QX9650 for $316 before xmas then I'm gonna wait until january and buy a Q9450. That'll show intelOriginally posted by: SerpentRoyal

For a true enthuathist $1150 is a bargain, besides you get an unlocked multiplier.Originally posted by: vmsein
Looks like Tiger Direct is the first with stock of the QX9650 here: http://www.tigerdirect.com/app...428&sku=CP2-DUO-QX9650
This is the OEM version and it's certainly not cheap!

I deliberately held off on Q6600 so that I could get Q9450 instead. If I had gotten Q6600 G0 when they came out I would not be looking at a Q9450 now, and I think that most people are in the same boat.

It's a performance increase...the FSB has gotten higher and higher over the years. Xeons use a 1600FSB.

How about almost 5Ghz for an e4500?

The 4400 records show about the same:

Relax everyone, there will be higher multiplier Penryns for us next year.
"The first 45nm processor from the E4000 series announced for 2008 by Intel will be E4700. This CPU will have a core frequency of 2600MHz, 800MHz FSB and 2Mb L2 cache. The estimated price of this E4000 series processor will be of 133$ in thousand-unit quantities. For the second CPU from this series, the model number has not been set yet, but sources announced that it is likely to support 1066MHz FSB and 3Mb L2 cache."
X38 doesn't officially support fsb 1600. Anand specifically mentioned that when he tested his 1600 fsb ES from intel. X48 will be the first to officially support it. now, unofficially...let's see...975, p965, p35, x38, x48, 680i, 650i...Originally posted by: PCTC2

The 1600MHz FSB will soon traverse the void to the Core2 Desktop line. The QX9750 will implement the 1600FSB (3.2GHz, 8x Multi), but as of now, the only chipset to support such a FSB will be the X38.

I don't feel so. The old E6x00 series got phased out but kept the same prices as their replacements, the E6X50 series. They didn't get a price cut just because they were getting dropped. No such luck.

I can't wait for the QX9750. Can anyone say $1300 quads?
