I let the noobs work out all the Peryn bugs. If I can't get my hands on a 9x Peryn quad under $180 in 2008, then I'll wait for the next cycle.

Don't you have a quad now? I'm sure you'll be good for a while. I'm sure you'd love to overclock a 45nm though.

The older CPUs get phased out. You may be able to find them at various retailers however, but I believe the price savings wouldn't be too much.

YEAH! I'm with you! If I can't get a QX9650 for $316 before xmas then I'm gonna wait until january and buy a Q9450. That'll show intel

I almost pulled the trigger on a Q6600 this past Sunday morning. Methinks I'll wait now. Indeed, Q9450 seems to be the sweet spot. That 8x multi and a slight FSB boost to 400 will go nicely. More L2 cache plus the reduced process size will all contribute to Geek-Goodness. I'm not looking for the overclock of the century; stability and a cooler-running Quad is where it's at for me.

Although, with it looking like my motherboard won't support Yorkfield, I may just pull the trigger on a Q6600/Tuniq Tower and be done with upgrades for the next year or so.

Geez SankeyBoy, what bug crawled up yer butt. Your beginning to sound a lot like OCHungry.

Sorry Intel didn't consult you......major oversight on their part. But, then again, they're not making a damned thing to suit you, are they? Much like your utter hatred for anything Corsair, ASUS (Abit only for you!!!), and Intel, among others, it really must piss you off that they dared make cpus to suit a wide market instead of just the 0.1% of the market that OC'ing enthusiasts represent.

But, since RedBeard, YellowBeard, JonnyGuru, and others have all labeled you a troll...........you show your true colors yet again. Just stirring the shit pot so you can sit back and enjoy the aroma.....

I think I might retire my tired and true E6300 (which runs cool 'n stable at 3.5Ghz with 1.38v with my P5KD) for the E8400. Not sure if this is much of a upgrade, but it would be great to hit 4.0Ghz, while keeping moderate voltage and temps. My E6300 has run like a champ for almost 18 months, especially considering I ran it for it's first 4 months 24/7 at 85C! Turned out my heatsink was not seated properly and I just assumed the "sensors" or the software was faulty. It didn't seem to affect it's performance any as I reached 533FSB x 7 with my P5B vanilla and this cpu.

I don't feel so. The old E6x00 series got phased out but kept the same prices as their replacements, the E6X50 series. They didn't get a price cut just because they were getting dropped. No such luck.

This is the OEM version and it's certainly not cheap!

I can't wait for the QX9750. Can anyone say $1300 quads?

Mmmm. I've ordered a DFI UT P35 T2R to try and push my Q6600 harder, but if it really does top out around 3.6 (and the other Q6600 I'm ordering), then I'm pretty glad the high FSB capability will server me well with penryn

e4400

Relax everyone, there will be higher multiplier Penryns for us next year.

The E4700 looks even better: 13X multiplier and 45nm!!!

"The first 45nm processor from the E4000 series announced for 2008 by Intel will be E4700. This CPU will have a core frequency of 2600MHz, 800MHz FSB and 2Mb L2 cache. The estimated price of this E4000 series processor will be of 133$ in thousand-unit quantities. For the second CPU from this series, the model number has not been set yet, but sources announced that it is likely to support 1066MHz FSB and 3Mb L2 cache."

I'd like to see some benchmarks between the Q9330 and the Q9450 (stepped down to 2.5GHz) just to see what a difference in cache does.

A 45nm Quad Core for $266, that's my target, Q93xx, I can hardly wait.

it is not a marketing scam because for a non overclocker it IS faster. And most people don't overclock.

X38 doesn't officially support fsb 1600. Anand specifically mentioned that when he tested his 1600 fsb ES from intel. X48 will be the first to officially support it. now, unofficially...let's see...975, p965, p35, x38, x48, 680i, 650i...

I'm seeing rumors in other threads about Penryn Quad's(besides the extreme) being put on hold until Feb or Mar, but I haven't seen any links or confirmations. Has anyone seen this?

The first dual-core Celeron processor, the E1200, will have core frequency of 1.6GHz, 800MHz FSB and 512KB L2 cache with a price of US$53 in thousand-unit quantities.

On the same day, Intel will also launch three quad-core (Yorkfield) CPUs, the Q9300, Q9450 and Q9550 and another four dual-core (Wolfdale) CPUs, the E8190, E8200, E8400 and E8500 for desktops, the motherboard makers added.

i want the e8500 or the e8400 it's going to be a tough choice for me... probably go with the 8400 to save some money I doubt the .5 multiplier is going to make a huge difference anyways. Aim, 4.5ghz-5ghz dual core even if I gota build a water rig to do it!

E8400 for me! It's the perfect sweet spot CPU for me. I was really looking hard at the 6850, but now that Jan. 20 is so close I'm definitely going for the 45nm replacement for $100 less. Gonna do a microATX build, I've already bought the G.Skill PC8000 RAM and the Asus G35 Express motherboard. This'll be as cutting edge as I've ever gotten on a build.

Yep, I'm going to wait for the E8400. I'm still using my old E6300 with a P5K Deluxe (3.43Ghz @ 1.36v). I hope the prices stabilize near the 1,000 lot price quickly, like other recent cpu releases, and not linger at inflated prices too long, like the original E6x00's did. Especially now with Intel having no competition, there is no real incentive to hurry the Penryn release, although Nehalem is waiting in the wings.
