Big No.....BUt they are compatable with a 955 chipset that starvces the chips with a shared memory bus, and wasted use of 667DDR2.....Expect this platform to be short lived for performance conscious users....

Sorry bde but you have to change your motherboard if you want to upgrade, try to wait for Nvidia nForce 4 intel edition boards.

It would seem that AMD will be holding all the cards this round again.
For the home user who already purchased a 775/915/25 mobo, this sux.
For those who still have 478 mobo's this might not be terrible.
My company builds a product that has a pretty beefy computer system in it.
Intel Serverboard, Dual Xeons, 4GB DDR and about 5 hard drives.
The Smithfield my be a nice upgrade path for our purposes. Smaller mobo,
dual core instead of dual CPUs. Dunno, have to research it.

I dont buy this "its not compatible" bit. Has anyone actually tried it? The 6xx series is also "not compatable" with anything below a 915 chipset yet Im running mine perfectally fine in an i865PE.

I'd take what they have said with a grain of salt till somone actually tries it.

well, call it "not supported, anyways." I would think, though, that if it was compatable with the current technology, Intel would say so, just so that AMD cant ho them out over that.

Eventho I have an Intel PC I honestally think that their motive is to sell more chipsets. Hell the i925XE hasnt been out for 6 months! They have to justify it SOMEHOW

Im sure with the right board it will work just fine

yeah, they are in the business to make money. Its kinda like my PSP... Gotta buy new media (mem stick duo) instead of using the mem stick pros. Sony makes more $$$ for that.

nope as in you need a Intel Chipset of 945/955x or Nvidias Chipset to be able to use a dual core intel processor

Once again... sez who? Unless somone has physically tried and PROVED such then dont say it. My 640 supposedly only runs in an i915 and i925 / XE yet it does just fine in my i865PE.

so you run your socket 775 P4 640 in the physically incompatible Socket478 (i865) board?

oh wait, I see, I also run my AMD Barton 2600+ in the i925xe and I could turn on Hyperthreading too... joy oh joy oh joy.

would someone slap this guy back to reality?

lmfao
