TRIM support isnt coming to the G1 drives, it has GC which works almost as well, in addition to the really good controller.
The G2 drives are being reflashed and re-shipped, yes Intel is losing money but they are keeping their corporate rep and impressing a lot of people (aside from the annoyance of NOT having the drive in hand this minute). Ill wait while they get it sorted out. We dont get TRIM until 7 gets to retail. Boo hoo.

Quit your bitchin.

What kind of ignorant person says 'quit your bitchin' it's a perfectly acceptable complaint and that kind of behaviour I wouldn't expect on anandtech, go back to irc.

Well, if you're asking that question, then it's probably not worth it. If you absolutely can't fit your OS + important apps/documents/games in 80GB, then it might be worth it, if you have money laying around and don't mind paying a large early adopter tax. But you can fit a lot in 80GB.

Better than the old G1 price - a lot of us hardcore geeks can't bear to wait any longer, I know it'll be 199$ US in 9 months but I've had it with slow drives, I can't bear it anymore.

I just need an optomisation and tips guide, do I keep my swap file on the SSD? (6gb) do I keep my TMP and TEMP directories? What about my user profile? Etc.

I ordered a 160G2 when they first hit Newegg but it got cancelled. As soon as I get the timing right another will be on the way. As for Seti he had to join Intel's forums to make his feeling known and tell everyone about his 385$ Bahama vacation. Must be real important to him. Hope a jellyfish doesn't get him. Be a pity if after spending all that money he was reduced to running around asking random strangers to pee on him. In case someone doesn't get the reference. http://www.friends-tv.org/zz401.html

is this a stupid suggestion... instead of getting the 160GB getting two 80GB and put into RAID 0...? would that be faster and more bang for buck?

Anyone seen a decoder ring for the letter and digit designation after the G2? ie, whats the diff between a G2C1 and a G2R5, etc

I was wondering about this too. My only concern is about potential TRIM issues. Will TRIM be supported in RAID 0 on the ICH10R controller?

this drive is faster than any ssd... ignore optimizations guides, they are for jmicron drives only.

Just got my 160GB G2 in yesterday (that I ordered from Newegg at about 3am Saturday morning...). Will be installing it tonight.

Don't be silly.
Optimization for drive life is important to me, if this thing was simply going to hold a single 160gb file which is sequentially written and read sure, but Windows 7 as an OS has thousands of files, some updated all the time, some tiny files, some large files.
Also I've been moving /temp/ and /my documents/ and /swap/ to another drive for 10 years - I'm very used to that, do I still do it and what are the benefits- I intend to find out if no one else has
