well that settles it. I have been debating what to do with my patriot torqx 64GB. I paid 219 and I have until tomorrow to return it. I think I'll keep it, and wait until xmas to see what is up with these intel drives. This is just stupid now. And in all honesty, to my eyes and my experience, my torqx is "instantaneous". I know the intel is faster, but please... my wallet will thank me.

The only thing funny about this are the people who actually think these would be in stock long enough to buy one at MSRP.

Since, I live in NY I was going to buy from newegg to avoid taxes but their prices are thru the roof... After this, I was considering buying drive at the end of the year... but then I found them at amazon for $499 retail box vs $997 from newegg. I really didn't want to spend over $500 but pulled the triger... Including tax total came to $544.36.

In short, newegg is not the only game in town... If you don't like newegg's prices go somewhere else

I put in a pre-order at Amazon also. They have had the expect shipping in 2 to 4 weeks for quite a while now but I hope this works out. Have some other places with a tell me when it's in stock deal. Screw Newegg. It would be nice if Intel stopped shipping to Newegg also. I've seen a couple of moron posts that blame Intel for Newegg's prices.

Online retailer that allows for back orders to be taken. They have real-time inventory on there showing 1110 back ordered and only 630 incoming. Their 330 shipment to their S. Cali warehouse is due to come in September 14!

interesting that three of the shipments are showing as "past due"... aka intel is late in delivering?

Your screenshot is out of date, the 80GB G2's are now $600.

Intel G2 at Newegg

no, you linked the retail version instead of oem, which was 100$ extra and the same price on his screenshot as well.

I managed to get a "bad" bios 80GB G2 at retail price when they first came out. Not in this universe and other dimensions is the 80GB even remotely worth $499. It was barely worth the $200 retail I paid for it.

A lot of this can be blamed on over the top reviewers. They concentrated on the G2 like a herd. Fortunately the herd has mostly moved onto P55, so maybe that will take some pressure off.

This really isn't that exciting of an upgrade, unless you think loading a browser a couple of second more quickly is exciting. If you have a decent system, that little pause to get in Crysis every now and then will become a smaller pause. Big deal. OS boot up times? Guess what, if you're running a RAID array (which I'm sure many readers on this board are doing), you will still have to wait for the RAID array to initialize.

This really makes me want avoid Newegg in the future. I could always count on their prices being at least in the ballbark reasonable. Now I have to add "gouging yes/no" to my checklist.

I don't see what you are talking about, it is the biggest upgrade i have ever done to my computer, the speed upgrade is unbeleiveable.

That is newegg of the past several years. they stopped being what you describe a long time ago

They've got the original G1 jacked up to $314 now, so much for my theory that they're trying to clean out the old ones. It even has a "you save $10" tag on it LOL.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16820167005

If it helps anyone, I found these 80gb G2's on slickdeals, they won't ship till 9/15 but taking orders for $240 something:

http://www.toshibadirect.com/td/b2c/adet.to?poid=450025

And setup an auto-notify on ZZF, still shows $230 something with free ship.

Or you can gladly have mine for $500 on ebay when it arrives Thursday, for $250 I can live with my 7200rpm platter for a few weeks

Wow, I'm glad I got mine when I did. This is nuts.

And I just don't know what to say to you, rolodomo. If you don't like it, sell it to someone that will appreciate it.

I said it was worth $200, but not more, that's gotta show some appreciation. I can appreciate that another person could reasonably view the G2 as big upgrade though.

For me, it was just another storage upgrade. The thing I tend to notice during everyday operation is waiting for large file loads, and I still get better throughput on my platter RAID array (as would be expected). I do notice the G2's much better random read access time, but for a device that pushes this figure essentially to zero, I was expecting more.

Eventually I'll put two G2(s) into RAID, then I'll probably be wowed.

I just ordered one from mwave even though it is OOS. They say it should be in stock on Friday. I paid, so I'm in line.... 249 though.

What's the thing to do now:

- Newegg has the 160GB Intel for $500, Bing is working so 10% off = $450.

(Is this the one to get: Intel X25-M Mainstream SSDSA2MH080G2C1 2.5" 80GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid state disk (SSD) )

- Other versions like the Agility 80GB are as low as $130 AR.

- Just wait for price drops and/or improvements

Edit: seeing that Newegg raised it from $250 to $500 since Friday, at least waiting, not buying it at $500, seems to make a lot of sense.

That is the 80GB version for 500$, not the 160GB version... the 160GB is 1000$...

eek, thanks for the correction. I saw the 160GB for the same price a couple days ago and didn't look carefully enough. Outrageous.

Tankguys has the 80Gb in stock for $249.99. Considering that they probably don't purchase anywhere near the same volume that Newegg does, I'd say that's a reasonable markup.

I hope the people who bought the $1.000 160 Gb leftovers from Newegg realise they could have had the 320 Gb ones for that price. The SSDSA2MH320G2C1 has been spotted in onlineshops in Germany. Cheapest price: just shy of ?900 (?754 without tax). See http://geizhals.at/eu/a444071.html.

looks like mwave is oem and toshiba is retail kit.

Can anyone tell me if this TRIM function will work with the 2nd gen Intel X-25M and Windows XP, or is windows Vista (I hate it) or 7 needed? Does anyone have good data on using the 2nd gen X25M with XP? thanks

7 will be required for trim, but current talk is a manual trim program for legacy OSs.
