As one of the people affected by Newegg's recall-screw up, whatever it was, let me explain to those of you who don't see the problem. We ordered in good faith, got confirmation, and had our credit cards charged and then waited patiently while the drives sold out everywhere. That's what pisses me off. no explanation of what happened, not one indication that they mean to rectify this, just TS, no soup for you. And yes, I called customer care and I just as well have been talking to an automated response machine. Newegg has a great reputation but now I fail to see why. This is nothing to do with defects, since I personally have not been told anything, it's just speculation. Every other distributor seems to have shipped or contacted their customers. If they mysteriously have stock earlier than everyone else at Newegg's gouge prices then they will never get another dollar from me. I wouldn't be so mad if I had an explanation of what happened.

there's a newegg customer service rep who frequents these forums. I wonder if somebody affected would PM him if he'd give an answer.

Try to explain THAT to people on AT.
I posted about AMD's lacking/horrible/buggy support for AHCI and almost got lynched but the crowd here.

AT?

newegg HAD great reputation years ago.. now they are meh... there are certainly worse places to shop, but there is nothing steller about them, i used to shop exclusively in newegg, now I shop around. I made my first newegg purchase in 2002, by 03 i was an exclusive egger. sometime in 07 or 08 i stopped being newegg exclusive due to their deteriorating service

For those of you that have moved away from Newegg, where did you go? There is a tremendous amount of online parts stores, very few of them appear to be very reputable, with good stock on hand, and good customer service. I've been shopping almost exclusively with Newegg, with the occasional sojourn to ZipZoomFly & MWave over the years, now I wouldn't know where I would go next.

I'm thinking about NCIXUS. They have a reasonable selection and they actually have DO stepping 920s listed. I wouldn't mind some feedback on them as well. Had good luck with ZipZoomFly and they have some really good deals sometimes.

NCIX is good.

We Canadians use NCIX & their clones for the majority of stuff, as newegg.ca is horribly overpriced nearly all the time, & didn't exist till recently.

I have used zipzoomfly (actualy going back to when they were googlgeear) and mwave when newegg didn't have what I was looking for but most of my purchases have been newegg, and while their pricing is not always the best I have found their service is generally very good. Also have used excaliburpc a couple of times, pricing was good and service was but I can't really compare them to newegg after only a few orders. My problem with ncix (at least last I looked) is they don't accept amex, and I prefer to order all pc parts with amex (extended warranty can be nice, as can return protection in the case of a vender screwup).

i still sometimes go with newegg, mwave, zipzoomfly, buy.com, amazon.com, tigerdirect, etc...

NCIX is typically overpriced compared to the others, i rarely buy there.

Actually I usually use mwave, newegg, or zipzoomfly

My order made it through for whatever reason and I received my 80 G2 from Newegg today, complete with the bare-bones type packaging.

This was my first SSD, so it should be a big deal to me. I put it into my 775 board already running two Seagate 7200.11(s) in motheboard RAID 0. An ok setup, but I was expecting this new Intel SSD to smoke it. Yes, file loading is noticeably more quick. Still, it was sort of anti-climatic. My recent conversion to water cooling was a hell of a lot more exciting. I recommend the SSD, but knowing what I know now, I would not significantly overpay for it when it initially trickles back into stock, even if I had to wait months.

I checked prices NCIX vs. Newegg and NCIX was cheaper on motherboards and more expensive on processors, enough to make you shop around. 20 more for a 920 and 40 more for a DO 920. I checked Micro Center and they have them on sale, 100$ cheaper on sale, in store pick up only. Always pays to look around. Wish Micro Center wasn't 60 miles away and I didn't work nights. Probably a good thing, planning on new stuff after the first of the year, anyway.

To rolodomo: When my order disappeared my first thought was what are prices going to be now that people were gobbling these up. Don't think prices will be this close to bulk prices for a while. Hope I'm wrong, but I may be waiting a while.

If you want your stuff fast, buy newegg.

If you want your stuff packed securely, look elsewhere.
If you want good return policies, look elsewhere.
If you want good customer service, look elsewhere.

Everytime I've had an issue they told me to contact the manufacturer. This has been a standard practice by newegg for years. What you should know is, this practice is against ALL merchant regulations. If you need support for an item you've bought, the merchant is OBLIGATED to provide direct support, or you can return a product if its not as described REGARDLESS of their return policy. Every federal reserve regulated bank in the country will side with you if your dispute is within these lines. Newegg really straddles the "illegal" line and hopes they can brush you off if you aren't aware of your rights.

I've noticed alot of customer testimonials about how great Newegg's customer service is, except when they actually explain what newegg did for them, it's obvious that the "support" they provided was what they were legally obligated to do in the first place--they didn't do you any favors, but try to convince you that they've gone out of their way to help you. The level of cluelessness alot of online customers have about their own rights is staggering.

I'm surprised with the poor experiences everyone has had with newegg. Yeah, they get it out fast. My stuff always seems to be packaged well, I've never had anything damaged. Often the boxes are mutilated by UPS but the contents are still secure. I also like how newegg always gives me a pre-paid printable UPS shipping label for an RMA (are they legally obligated? I have no clue, but I like it). Newegg also let me return a product that was covered under the "limited replacement, no returns" policy for no reason at all.

Maybe I've just been lucky.

What the hell? You shop at NCIX and call NewEgg horribly over-priced?

Short of epic rip-off stores like FutureShop, BestBuy or TigerDirect, NCIX is about as over-priced as you're ever going to find across most items. Their weekly sales basically have the effect of putting the discounted items at about the same price point as competitors. NewEgg is cheaper than NCIX on just about everything - which I have exploited regularly with NCIX's amazingly permissive price-match policy (which is the only real reason to buy from NCIX).

NewEgg also tends to process orders faster, has free shipping on many items. Much to my surprise, since NewEgg ships out of the US, the shipping times are actually lower (if you're in Eastern or Atlantic Canada). Unfortunately, newegg.ca does have a pretty shitty selection compared to either newegg.com or NCIX.

I don't know where you live man (sounds like States) but up here in Canada NCIX will price match the lowest price you are able to find so it's not an issue...

I divide my business between NCIX and Memoryexpress (a local store) depending on the items...

actually i meant NCIXUS.com not NCIX. And it is usually the same price as newegg, except newegg has free shipping, which is lower than normal, and NCIXUS has higher then normal shipping.
I got my intel today, it was a tiny tiny brown box in a large envalope... the brown box contained an amazingly small drive with about a quarter of an inch foam on all sides... I am gonna try to install windows 7 on it today. But with classes, homework, and fixing my mom's computer I don't know if I will find the time.

Isn't it crazy how small they are? The first time I opened mine I was totally taken aback. And I was equally re-surprised the second time

I guess you are lucky. I've decided to stop shopping with newegg unless its some sort of emergency (since I'm in Cali). Suffice to say I've spent close to 7k with newegg in the last 5 months and more than once when I had an issue they told me "please contact the manufacturer" even though it CLEARLY states they take exchanges for returns and keep dancing around and telling me they can't help me. Well guess what, my credit card company can help me.

wow, it is just so amazingly fast I am very happy... some things are the same speed (obviously not HDD limited), but others are a world faster. Overall everything is spry, and it mixes really well with windows 7...
I honestly have nothing to do... i mean, everything installed so fast, I expect to be upgrading and updating but I have nothing to actually do...

Got an email from Newegg today telling me there is a problem with my recent order. Includes a info release from Intel about the password thing and that a firmware update will be released in two weeks. One hand doesn't know what the other is doing. I'm done now, no more bitches about Newegg.

oh, i also got that email from newegg:
Dear Valued Customer, We were recently informed by Intel that one of their products may have a performance issue. Our records indicate that you purchased this product and Newegg wanted to take a proactive step by informing you of this information and providing the easiest way to resolve the issue. Below is the official response from Intel regarding their Intel G2 Solid-State Drive:

Dear Customer,

We greatly appreciate your recent purchase of the new Intel® 34nm (G2) X25-M High Performance Solid State Drive (SSD). Thank you. This notification is intended to inform you of a potential issue requiring your immediate attention.

Intel has identified an issue which affects users who use BIOS drive passwords with the new Intel SSD. If a BIOS drive password is set on the SSD, removing or changing this password will cause the system to become inoperable as the SSD will lose all data. Intel recommends you do not use BIOS drive passwords with this Intel SSD at this time. There is no issue using a computer, network or operating system password. In the event you have already set a BIOS drive password, do not disable or change the password. Intel has identified a fix for this issue, and will be offering a firmware update on the Intel support website within the next two weeks. Visit http://www.intel.com/support/9089.htm for the latest support information regarding this issue.

We apologize for any inconvenience and truly appreciate your business.

Regards,

Intel Corporation

Newegg strives for a completely satisfying customer experience, which is why we wanted to alert you of this information immediately. If you require any assistance from Newegg, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Half of what newegg says are scare tactics and wouldn't hold in a court of law and that includes half their return policies.
