Of all the similar truisms I have always found that saying to be spot on. Like when I am waiting for dinner to cook, and then, after just 5 minutes of email, it is not just cooked but all the water has gone and pot and dinner ruined

HA!... my problem exactly. Love to cook, hate to wait for the food TO cook. However I managed to play GTA4 AND make some of the best filet's last night. It's a good thing I can't ruin the wine lol.

actually it takes exactly the same amount of time to boil than if you don't watch it.

Don'tcha know that if a guy named Old Hippie talks about watching pot, he ain't talkin about boiling water!

What are you suggesting? Does he have a vat of boiling acid instead of a cooking pot?

So rather than read through another several pages (I am at work and can't spend that much time)

Will the G1 work with the TRIM command in Windows 7 now with the firmware ordeal?

Additionally are there comparable SSDs or is Intel the latest and greatest with the G2? I will have to wait 6 weeks or so before I can order anything but I would like to keep my options open and explore other possibilities.

G1 will never get trim capability, only G2.
G1 probably does not NEED trim because it has built in garbage collection, which does the same thing, but not as efficiently (resulting in overall lower performance than if it had trim)

I'm observing G2's degrade in seq write speed the more they are filled up. It seems dependent on free space, because I cleared up 10GB and the seq write speeds seem to have come back.

Anyone observe this with heavy use?

yes, pcper covered that in their article. they said that garbage collection was sacrificed compared to G1 for greater speed to make use of trim instead.

Once the space is used, freeing it back up does nothing for performance unless either a) the drive has TRIM enabled, which it doesn't support yet, or b) you erased the drive and re-imaged to "free" the space.

ilkhan, yep no trim support for intel drives yet, need a firmware update (suspected to be available sometime around when 7 is commericially available). Question is when will the drives be back in stock.

TRIM is in Windows 7 but Intel have decided to be lazy, even though they've had since JANUARY of Windows 7 beta (and that's public, let alone private) - they still haven't put TRIM on their new disks - it's insane.

Now the final is OUT for people who have an MSDN account, it's insane.

it is not insane, it is quality control. The final is only going to be released in a month

Stupid question, does anyone know if the X25-M (retail) comes with a SATA cable, and do you typically daisy chain to your other SATA drive or always go direct to the motherboard?
