they don't only sell old tech at the same price. A lot of times they continue to manufacture the old stuff and sell it as the same price.
For example, when the 45nm nehalems started producing intel kept on manufacturing 65nm Core2s and selling them for almost the same price. (190$ for C2Q Q9400, 200$ for lower clock but slightly faster nehalem). If you already own an older motherboard and DDR2 its cheaper to buy the older and slower and in every way inferior chip for the same price. And intel loves nothing more then to sell outdated technology at a full price (very short life span before you need to buy something new from them)

Considering that you're the first in that particular post to mention discontinuing while you and me were both talking about discounting until then, no, I can't say I do

Talta even used exactly the example I had in mind (arrr!), though you could add the G1 drives which were sold for more or less the same even long after the G2s were released (though no idea if Intel continued to build them like they do with their CPUs) - seems like people buy those things still.
So no I wouldn't count on any cheap G2s except from people selling their old drives to get the newest and finest, but then considering that the transition from 34->25nm isn't that great I'm not sure many will do that - I certainly don't plan to get rid of my 160gb G2 at least.
