Thx for the deal...make me spend more money :-(

Reason I bought this was for my girlfriend's graduation gift....I would never buy it for myself because I am a PC person..hahahaa

I will get mine at $428.35 on May 6.

Called 1 (800)879-3355 and spoke with Rachel x84517

She's very friendly and I had no problems at all about the 10% off and $45 off coupon.

I just realized that there's a 20% off all software and accessories if you order thorugh SMALL BUSINESS.
That makes it $526 - $105 = $421. Which is a bit cheaper than $428.

bah... iPods... soon WE'll all be Ipod people, walking around without any intelligence

no, wait... thats from a movie...
As for the new iPods, ROCK ON! I'm broke as all get out, and cash-covered pretty women don't just fall from the sky ya know (a`la Dogma)

drat! guess i'm gonna be waiting a while for Dell to screw up and make them priced at 1.99$ for 3 minutes when i happen to be looking.

Or, someone could sell me their old one for realllly cheap

How long does it usually take before a phone order shows up on dell's order status page? My order number doesn't seem to show up when I look it up on the web site or when I use the automated phone system. I'm just wondering whether other people are experiencing the same or whether Dell is starting to cancel these iPod orders like people on the other boards are saying.

Never mind - the phone rep just gave me the wrong order number. Seems like things are still okay.

for those who want the 15gig version. the SKU is #A0110824 priced at $443. other forums are saying this is only in the SMALL BUSINESS section. some had success PM it down to apple's $399 price tag, then applying the current 20% off promotion. good luck to all.

www.gottadeal.com
If the Dell deal is not availble, Amazon has the new 30GB for $499 and the 15GB for $399. Free shipping, but without any coupons that I know of, it's not that great of a deal yet unless you have some Amazon GCs burning a hole in your pocket.

I got mine from Dell today for $399 + tax, not a bad deal at all. It took a little while but it came through.

The best price on the 15GB model was $443 - 15% and it wasn't worth it. The price difference for 15 more GB is not that much.

Has anyone gotten a better deal than $399 or the 15GB mode -$300 ?

hmmm...Interesting article in Wall Street Journal Marketplace section today reviewing the new iPods. The author has been using the old iPod for a while now, and got the new one to use for the past 3 days. Although he really liked the new iPods, he did point out a significant shortcoming over the old school iPods: Shorter Battery Life.
As he puts it, they made the newer iPods smaller, thinner, and more attractive, but all the reduction in size has come at the expense at a smaller (both in size and capacity) battery. He states that the older iPods claimed 10 hours of continous play, and the new ones claim 8 hours. He actually observed 12 hours of play on full charges for the older iPods, and only about 7-7.5 hours on the new ones. This is by no means inadaquate, because who really listens to mp3's for more than 7 hours a day, before having to charge them, but since so many people are so quick to jump on the new iPod bandwagon, I thought I'd point this out.

I'm not sure what kind of crack Mossberg is smoking, but he's normally an Apple 'homer.' Anyway, he claims 12 hours on his old iPod. No way. I've tested my old 20 GB twice with minimal battery drain settings and it never got more than the advertised 10 hours. The old 10 hour estimate was dead on. The new 8 hour estimate seems dead on too...and I'm willing to trade 2 hours for the thinner form-factor.

Reducing battery life is the ultimate sin in my book. Placing aesthetics over functionality should be a crime punishable by stoning. 8 hours may sound ok now, but what will it be after a year's use? Then it's $250 to replace the battery? I think not.

My 20 GB iPod is nearly a year old and the battery still gets about 10 hours. If you checked the links I pasted, the replacement battery for the old iPod is $49...not anywhere near the $250 you surmise.

It's good to hear you are still getting good battery life. For those people who need a new battery and don't want to fit it themselves (probably the majority of owners) Apple charge them $250 for doing it (or so I've been told).

This is true. Up until recently, the only way to get a new battery was through Apple and they were charging an exorbitant price. I think $250 is accurate. Now you can buy a replacement battery for much less, but you have to risk opening up your own iPod.

Now I am torn ....
1) the battery is smaller and doesn't last as long

but...

2) you can replace your own battery when the time comes!

Besides, I still have a brand new Nomad Zen 20gb! (unless someone is interested, PM me)

for people with the "old" ipod: be sure to update teh firmware. You'll notice a huge improvement in battery usage. (there was a bug in teh old firmware that told the system to shut itself down for low power, even though there was still plenty of juice left.)

I'm beginning to really hate the idea of an integrated battery. I ordered a new 15gig ipod 2 days ago, and just ordered one of the Sony's newest MD recorders, the N-10 for someone. Both have integrated batteries, and in both cases, I think the reason for the integration is to save space and to make them look better. But the fact is, if you need to use the device for a long period of time, or is in a situation where you can't recharge it anytime soon, then you're really out of luck if the battery runs out. Case in point, if you're flying overseas, where sometimes the flight might be 24 hours, you can only use the ipod for 10 hours, and it runs out of battery, then theres nothing you can do about it. If it had a replaceable battery, then you can always carry extra battery sticks with you.

Unless they start making batteries that last days at a time between charges, I really think they should think about a battery extension pack. I know for sony mds, it comes with a battery extension pack that takes AAA batteries. The ipod doesn't have a similiar option does it?
