Are you sure about that? Apple's tech specs page says 4.1x2.4x0.62in for the 10&15GB models, and 4.1x2.4x0.73in for the 30GB.

I read on Apple's website that the new ipods will have calendar/address book capabilities. The website said this is only available for the apple ipods. Does anyone know if you can somehow get the same functionality on a windows Ipod? That would be sweet to have both in one. thanks

I don't have one, but according to the website, there is only one version this time around (no separate mac and pc versions)....so i would guess the answer to your question is "yes".

What is the SKU #? How did you get it down to that low price? I know about the $45 off $350 code, but how did you get it that low. One last thing, how long is the expected delivery? Thanks in advance.

Dell actually has it for $526 (more than the retail price that apple has). 10% off + $45 off coupon (both expire tomorrow) takes it to $428. You have to call in and tell them to do a search for the ipod. Friday is the office launch of the new ipods (when apple will ship and my local apple store is having an ipod event). And Dell has it schedule to ship on Monday. I had ordered an ipod from apple which was to ship on Friday but canceled that order.

Dell does not have the 10GB or 15GB in their system. I am sure that they will have them soon and the price will reflect the true retail prices but I don't want to wait till it is $499 and hope for a dell promotion.

I just called Dell and they *do* have it in their system. I opted for faster shipping so my order came out to $432.95...quite a steal. I wonder why the non-discountedprice is $27 above MSRP though. Order Status page doesn't list the SKU...doh.

thanks for info, they're closed right now, guess i'll try my luck tomorrow morn.

edit:
the sku works, but the guy from the pc dept say he wouldn't be able to get the additional 10% off and the $45 off coupon to work together. since both offers expires tomorrow, i'll try my luck fresh thing in the morning.

edit #2:
oh yea, thanks GadgetGirl for finding the SKU.

Certain portions of the store were closed when I called. The Accessories store was closed. I actually went through the computer sales department. The guy didn't even know they sold iPods.

"Do you have the 30 GB iPod in stock?"
"Isn't that Apple?"
"Right, but you sell them too, heh"
"Oh wow"

I just got off the phone with them as well. The accessories department was closed, but I got through with the "buy a computer" option. The SKU is A0110244, but it doesn't come up on their site yet. The sales rep told me that I couldn't place an order because it was listed as out of stock. However, I mentioned I have coupons that expire, and he let me order it for $432.95. Sweet! Marked to ship May 5th.

I got quite excited about the new iPod until I learned that it has reduced battery life, and with a device without a user-replaceable battery I don't think that's a good idea. I find the 10hrs of my old-model iPod just OK, but to lose another 2 hours would be a pain. As the battery capacity reduces with age the problem will be more marked. Just look at the PocketPC market. Look at how many people go out and buy bigger capacity batteries. They don't care about the extra weight. Same for laptops. How many laptop users wouldn't sacrifice 1lb weight for an extra 2 hours usage? All the same, I'm sure the new iPod will do well.

I'm sure somebody's going to write-up a how-to on taking the new iPod apart. All the same, I'd guess the battery isn't completely proprietary and higher capacity replacement units will be made available. This happened with the older iPods, which use 1200 mAh 3.7 volt li-poly cells. This is a 1500 mAh replacement for the old iPod.

In addition, for those long non-stop flights from O'Hare to Narita, there's the Belkin Back-up Battery Pack which uses AA cells. The 2100 mAh 1.2V AAs that I use for my digital camera would be perfect for this...

um... is the Apple.com store on the honor system for the education link if you actually attend a school, or do you have to provide proof?

Sorry Rossman. Couldnt respond earlier cause I just got home but the sku which gadgetgirl found is A0110244. Good luck to all. Don't let them tell you can't order it. I don't think Dell is allowed to say that they have these unitil Friday cause that is the official launch.

Even the old iPods have them. And I think it's for both Mac, and PC models

When you first go there you have to tell them your school (some schools have slightly different stores) at the end they ask for your Student ID which "supposedly" they call to verify.

Anyone who got an ipod for ~430 did that include tax ( the only state I know they charge tax for is Texas... )

they do that so they can capitalize on people like you who are willing to pay more than the MSRP. just like some poeple are willing to pay more then the MSRP when a new model of car just came out. Welcome to the capitalism world.

DeadMilkman - I didn't ask whether there was tax included, but I haven't been charged tax on my previous orders from Dell. Besides, if you do the math you'll quickly see that tax is not included in the total. My total was $525 - $52.50 - $45 + 2nd day shipping = $432.50. If you order the iPod from apple.com, you will be charged tax which brought my order total to over $540, so buying through dell.com really saves a huge amount of money.

Thanks for the response govtcheez75. You are right that all ipods have the calendar/address book functionality. However, for syncing the website states only the Apple pods can sync.

"You can also sync your iPod with contacts, calendars and to-do lists (Mac-only)."

Has anyone ran into this? Is there away around it? I would like to sync the new ipod with my outlook.
