With the intro of the new Nano's and iPod Videos, the old ones have dropped in price. If you don't need/want the latest:

Apple iPods @ Amazon for good prices

Examples:
iPod Nano 1Gb $119.99
ipod Nano 2gb $149.99 (Black only)
iPod Video 60GB $299.99

And the new ones are on preorder I believe.

The black 60GB is $299. White one is $365. Would def go with the black one for that big a price diff.

A lot. I even believe Apple could rename its new Nanos, like Nano II something like that. New casing, new color, better battery life (finally!), better LCD, etc.

Wow...yet another year where they release all new iPods making the "old" ones (which are barely a year old) completely obsolete and "trash". I mean, don't get me wrong, I like my iPod a lot, but if Apple had their way I'd be paying them hundreds of dollars every year just to keep up with them. Do a lot of people actually play musical Apple products this much?

apparently there must be some idiots who rush out to buy new incarnations every time. why would they keep doing minor upgrades almost every year and ipod sales keeps growing. you'd think the market would be saturated by this point.

erm, the new 30gb is 249, new 80gb 349, so i'd guess that the new 60gb ones are 299?

Some Apple executive (Jobs?) said their goal was just that, recently.

Actually, sales are no longer growing, and people are getting worried about it:

This is funny.

About a year ago now, I took a calculated risk after doing a bit of web research, bought a 'broken' ipod 2nd generation 20GB player, connected it to my PC by firewire, formatted/updated it and I've been pretty much good to go since then, for <$50 shipped (Since then I have bought a total of THREE accessories for it, Firewire charger+cable, iSkin case, and jack/plug for my car CD/MP3 player to connect it) Grand grand total of <$100. Don't feel the burning need to get a video model, and I get a comment now and then on the odd/retro look of the monochrome display with the original circular button layout...that and the red silicone case.

I won't deny that I'm tempted, but I think I've been able to get 80% of the enjoyment for a small fraction of the usual iPod cost-of-ownership.

The new nanos are definitely what they should have been in the first place. I've always hated the metal backings. Then again, I don't listen to much music, but I'm sure my brother's going to buy a new one anyways since his old 2gb nano is filled. I guess I'll be taking that off of him lol.

Anyone have any idea on how to remove or hide the lazer engravings? I plan on buying invisibleshield for it

Steve Jobs and his people at apple are too damn smart. They know they are going to make a killing with these new ipods.....

The new ipode clip is an amazing thing. Great for me to use at work.....when my mini dies, which it should with the stories I've heard, I think I'll get the clip. Great price at $79

That's just it...there are ALWAYS problems/things that "should" be better on any generation of iPod, which are usually addressed with the next generation, with Apple telling you "look how much better this one is than the crap you bought last year!" So basically, people who constantly upgrade are caught in a perpetual beta test of their products.

Geez you guys are harsh. Why don't you say the same thing about all those car companies who put out new models every year with small tweaks and improvements, with the occasional overhaul.

I bought a Nano last year and there is no need for me to upgrade unless I believe the new features are worth the new cost. The old stuff works fine, but there is now new stuff available. Where's the problem?

I think it's great that apple is pushing its line and making them more efficient, it only benefits the consumer. Its not worth the cost to upgrade for me from first generation nano to 2nd, but the changes are welcome none the less
